Monologue[edit]

It is sometimes claimed that the film of The Eagle with Two Heads features a 20-minute monologue (spoken by Edwige Feuillère as the Queen) which is the record length for a speech in any film (e.g. on IMDb and in Guinness World Records 2005 (p. 179). This is inaccurate. The text of the source play contains two long monologue scenes for the Queen (Act I, scene 3 and scene 6), the second of which may well last for 20 minutes when performed on stage. In the film however the text of both scenes is much reduced and they last for approximately 3 minutes and 9 minutes respectively. Furthermore both scenes are edited from multiple shots rather than being filmed in a continuous take. The performance of Edwige Feuillère remains a tour-de-force, but it is more notable for its intensity and panache than for its duration. Lampernist (talk) 14:58, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for setting the record straight. I hope the Guinness people are reading this. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 19:10, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
