Tesla Energy Software[edit]

Julian Lamy, Tesla’s head of Energy Trading and Market Operations, announced on LinkedIn:

“I’m excited to announce that I’m building a new team at Tesla focused on Energy Trading and Market Operations. This team will drive performance of Tesla’s global fleet of battery + renewable projects, build expertise in wholesale energy markets, and support development of Autobidder, Tesla’s automated energy trading platform.” --JShark (talk) 01:54, 10 September 2021 (UTC) https://electrek.co/2021/09/08/tesla-is-building-team-energy-traders/[reply]

SolarCity v. Doria case[edit]

@Justanothernode(jan): While I appreciate the effort you have put into covering the SolarCity v. Doria case, they seem to rely on "original research", specifically synthesis of court filings and Google searches. Synthesis is when you combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of the sources. The best practice on Wikipedia is to use information from reliable, published sources, such as a news report. I have not been able to find any such sources. That further calls into question its notability for a general review of a topic. Please discuss here before adding back the case information. --RickyCourtney (talk) 18:38, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ricky. All of the documents provided are valid documents from federal courts, energy utility providers, and some as you say Google Drive and Search.

Please indicate what facts you feel are unsupported or what sources are invalid so that I can attempt to satisfy your authority. Justanothernode(jan) (talk) 02:57, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Justanothernode(jan): Just to be clear, I have no special authority here, I am an editor just like you. While the documents you reference are valid court documents or search results, those are primary sources (see Wikipedia:Primary source). Wikipedia policy is that, "articles should be based on reliable, published secondary sources and, to a lesser extent, on tertiary sources and primary sources." (see Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Secondary source) We really need to find that kind of source (like news articles) to base this section on. If we can't find secondary sources, that further calls into question its notability for a general review of a topic. (see Wikipedia:Notability). --RickyCourtney (talk) 16:45, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty obvious to a trained litigator that you're a Quack. Justanothernode(jan) (talk) 17:38, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, a Tesla/Corporate Quack Justanothernode(jan) (talk) 17:39, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Is this actually a subsidiary?[edit]

I'm looking at the definition of subsidiary (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subsidiary) and it doesn't appear to me that Tesla Energy is actually a subsidiary.

"Subsidiaries are separate, distinct legal entities for the purposes of taxation, regulation and liability. For this reason, they differ from divisions, which are businesses fully integrated within the main company, and not legally or otherwise distinct from it. In other words, a subsidiary can sue and be sued separately from its parent and its obligations will not normally be the obligations of its parent."

I cannot find any evidence that this is true of "Tesla Energy," nor in fact any evidence that "Tesla Energy" actually exists anymore as an entity of any kind. Tesla used to refer to "Tesla Energy" but now in both the Tesla website and Tesla's regulatory filings its energy products are just presented as a regular Tesla product line. There is no Tesla Energy branding and no evidence that Tesla's energy products fall under a separate legal entity.

Not sure what this would imply, maybe that this article should be reframed or rolled into the main Tesla article?

Agreed, subsidiary is the wrong word, division would be more appropiate. RickyCourtney (talk) 23:52, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Importance of Tesla Energy software?[edit]

This section currently feels like a lot of puffery without a lot of substance. How important is this software? How widely used? What are the benefits and drawbacks? What do each of the applications do? If we can't answer these questions, this section should br removed. -- RickyCourtney (talk) 23:51, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

With no opposition given, I’ll remove this section. -- RickyCourtney (talk) 05:09, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
