Origin of tricolor cockade[edit]

This article says: "They now pinned the blue-and-red cockade of Paris onto the white cockade of the Ancien Régime - thus producing the original cockade of France." That would mean the white band would be on the outside of the cockade. That is possible since it wasn't until later that the tricolor became standard. There is also a discrepancy between this article and what it says in "cockade of France". One says that Lafayette suggested a white band be added. The other says he presented a tricolour cockade to Louis. Both contradict the quote above. It is quite possible that the origin story is a myth such as those of early American history.
