"trick"[edit]

The disambig page for trick states that the usage here is slang, so I'd change those words to "customers" based on the definition given in the disambig, but what's stopping me is the passage that reads "3% of the tricks were given for free to police officers". Now I'm not so sure if "trick" is correctly defined, since "3% of the customers were given for free to police officers" doesn't seem like the original intent of the author. Could someone who knows a bit more about this revise it?  Aar  ►  23:32, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The trick page doesn't say anything like that, but considering it slang instead of jargon is just a matter of opinion. In any case, trick can refer either to the johns or to the act itself. Obviously the latter is meant here, and there's no problem in its use. -114.91.67.205 (talk) 10:35, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Authenticity[edit]

Has anyone reviewed or investigated the man's books or claims? The comments section of his posts to the NY Times Freakonomics blog (where he has police speaking to him on record about their penchant for more vigilantism & less law, as well as a party of thugs first sitting around for season 5 of the wire and then discussing Federal Reserve policies) have numerous people calling him out on fabrication or embellishment of his stories, but nothing serious or thorough. The fact that this site and his book apparently use "Black Kings" (not a real gang, although there is a Black King Cobras) where Freakonomics has "Black Disciples" (a real gang, but with a different history than that described) doesn't seem to bode well. -114.91.67.205 (talk) 10:35, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are questions about both the authenticity and his academic as well as financial practices. He underwent an intense year long audit while at Columbia University regarding misallocation of $250k. He went from tenured Columbia University professor to working at Facebook. He gained the trust of gangs, but later worked as as a consultant for the FBI.
