curvature?[edit]

The article states that the Explorer II crew were the first to see the Earth's curvature, but their peak altitude was less than 200 feet more than the Soviet balloon. How did the Soviets not see the curvature? (Is this a nationalistic claim made by only the sponsors?) --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 15:19, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the mention in this article seems to be sourced from the (heavily-referenced) book by Ryan. But then that author could be mistaken. This discrepancy should be resolved! --R J Sutherland (talk) 18:58, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

title/subject[edit]

This article appears to be more about the Explorer project than the Stratobowl, the selection of which appears in one paragraph of the Explorer section. Should the article be written more about the site, or should it be re-titled? --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 15:46, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. It may be awkward to separate the flights from their base, so I suggest the article simply be renamed "Explorer (balloon)" or somesuch. --R J Sutherland (talk) 19:03, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
