Nationalization[edit]

The article states the hotel was purchased by the government in 1962, but other sources characterize the action as nationalization. Our article on Burma says, "Between 1962 and 1974, Burma was ruled by a revolutionary council headed by the general, and almost all aspects of society (business, media, production) were nationalized or brought under government control (including the Boy Scouts)." Further, these sources also use the term "nationalize": www.oregonlive.com/travel/index.ssf/2009/01/yangons_renovated_strand_hotel.html - 65k, www.thejakartapost.com/news/2008/09/12/myanmar039s-colonialera-strand-hotel-well-preserved.html, www.mmtimes.com/feature/holiday08/hol05.htm, and www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/hrrpt/2004/41637.htm to just pick a few. So, open for discussion: is there evidence of a purchase -- a fair one, else the shading would be much too fine -- or not? DOR (HK) (talk) 06:20, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
