Proposed merge of Lahuli language with Kolong language[edit]

After researching, I would agree to this merger, but the name Lahuli should be dropped, as there is a language called Lohar Lahuli. The page's name should be changed to sTodpa or sTod Bhoti. ping Sagotreespirit Nik9hil (talk) 07:04, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Kwamikagami: as you created the Lahuli language page last year, I wonder whether you could help untangle the differences you perceive between these languages. We have Kolong language, STodpa, Stod Bhoti and Stod Bhoti language (this last one with an interesting history of varying redirects. Perhaps move Klbrain (talk) 18:23, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Agree it should probably be "Stod Bhoti", since Kolong is just a village name and there seem to be ambiguity problems with Lahuli as well. Camel case is weird in English, so unless it predominates in RS's, we should use normal capitalization. ISO and Glotttolog both have "Stod Bhoti", though I wouldn't necessarily follow either. Rather than drop "Lahuli", I'd prefer we explain the ambiguity. Per Glottolog, it's an alt name of Tinani, Pattani, Bunan as well [+ Lahul Lohar], with Stod Bhoti (according to MultiTree, which is not a RS) AKA "Lahul Bhoti" [but that would also be all of them]. Or perhaps move 'Lahuli' and turn the rd into a dab?

Klbrain, I know nothing of these languages. I was simply creating articles for langs in Glottolog or some other list. I'd ask a TB specialist if you want to be sure, but Ethnologue lists the dialects of Stod Bhoti [sbu] as:

Stod (Kolong), Khoksar (Khoksar Bhoti), Mayar (Mayar Bhoti, Mayari). 85% intelligibility of Stod Bhoti by Khoksar, 75% by Mayar, 62% of Khoksar by Mayar, 95% of Khoksar by Stod Bhoti. Lexical similarity: 74% with Spiti Bhoti [spt].

Should we request to have the histories merged, or leave a rd with a tag that it's preserving the history of one of the pages? There is unfortunately a lot of temporal overlap in the edit histories. "Kolong" has more detail (apart from lacking identification codes), but "Lahuli" has precedence. — kwami (talk) 20:28, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and merged into the older article. Couldn't understand all the wording in this one, so added a clarification tag at one point. ("Khoti" is the local term for "district"?)
