Stockton railway stationStockton (Durham) railway station – Disambiguation is required as this isn't the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of the name. There are two stations in Stockton, California also known as "Stockton" station in different contexts, as well as two other UK stations formerly called Stockton. There are also several other stations in Stockton-on-Tees. This title seems to be what WP:UKSTATION recommends, but other options may be possible. Cúchullain t/c 20:20, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation should be Stockton railway station (County Durham) instead. CannibalSnacks (talk) 20:23, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No, UK railway station convention is that the words "railway station" are always last. That is, Stockton (Durham) railway station or Stockton (County Durham) railway station --Redrose64 (talk) 20:31, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose disambiguator in the middle but I'd be OK with either Stockton railway station (County Durham), or Stockton railway station, County Durham per CannibalSnacks. There is a common misconception (also seen at Talk:Westport railway station move request) that WP:UKSTATION recommends inserting an arbitrary disambiguator in the middle of the article title. It does not. In certain specific cases, we do this, *where National Rail themselves do it*. Because that is the official name of the station. For example Sutton (Surrey) railway station is so called because National Rail call it that.[1] Similarly, Newport (Essex) railway station.[2] Note that "Surrey" is not actually the way we'd normally disambiguate Sutton railway station if left to ourselves, because it's now in London, Surrey is just a historic county. If we call this "Stockton (Durham) railway station", we'd be implying that National Rail call it that, yet they don't (since there is no need for them to disambiguate with American stations, they only disambiguate UK stations of the same name). So in this case, without a National Rail disambiguator, we should go with standard WP disambiguatino and put the county name at the end of the article title. Stockton railway station (County Durham) would be fine with me.--Cúchullain t/c 20:14, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • @SSTflyer: It is the responsibility of the closer even if they are not an admin to see the job through. I'm working through pages that are still linking to Stockton railway station which you have failed to fix as you should have done. Some of these (such as this one) can only be fixed if the link is made to Stockton (County Durham) railway station, which accords with my comment of 20:31, 9 March 2016, which I did not make lightly. Nobody asked why the order was important. There are templates which expect that word order (such as {{s-rail-national}} and {{stnlnk}}), and when unusual orders are asked for by people not familiar with the whole situation, we then need to make special provision, such as the creation of otherwise unnecessary redirects like Stockton (County Durham) railway station. Perhaps I should have written 'the words "railway station" must be placed last'. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:10, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, SST should have at least fixed the template links, but in fairness it's often hard to tell what's a real incoming link for some time after a move, as template links still show up well after they're fixed. As far as the station link templates go, it sounds like the problem is more with them than with the article.--Cúchullain t/c 21:05, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects[edit]

Please can two redirects link to this article:

Stockton-on-Tees Railway Station

Stockton South Railway Station

Both are in former names of the station, are in the info-box+Intro and are a lot more easier to link to than:

Stockton Railway Station (County Durham)

Stockton (Durham) Railway Station

And if not already, can the former station on the Stockton-Darlington Railway be created. Chocolateediter (talk) 10:18, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

These are the current redirs. We don't capitalise the words "railway station". --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:27, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
