Table?[edit]

Are those mountain called 'table' in English, or is the Polish name (stołowe) used? -- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 00:26, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article should be renamed as Stołowe Mountains, as the latter translation is used e.g. on the official website of Park Narodowy Gór Stołowych (Stołowe Mountains National Park). The latter translation is also consistent with the rules of translation of geographic names described by Alfred Belczyk here.Sylwia Ufnalska (talk) 11:04, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please rename promptly per Stolowe Mountains National Park official website in English.] Thanks, Poeticbent talk 11:47, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
hold on a bit. What about prevalent English language usage? We are not rushing to promptly rename Warsaw to Warszawa yet.:-) I'm inclined to favor the renaming, but "stolowe mountains" poland -wikipedia gives 6000 hits, while "stolowe mountains" poland -wikipedia gives 25,000 hits. At the same time in google books the "table" usage is merely a literal translation of the Polish name. Staszek Lem (talk) 16:26, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'd favor renaming to Stolowe. Staszek, is your sentence above correct? I think you might have an error there, the same search twice? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 19:23, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Me too, I'd prefer to use the official name as it is used by the National Park (http://www.pngs.com.pl/angielska/) rather than the name invented some travel agents. So rename. --Lysytalk 17:48, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That name Stołowe comes from flatness of table.

Table MountainsStołowe Mountains – per consensus in talk and reliable sources listed such as the official webpage of the National Park. Poeticbent talk 18:34, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - per WP:COMMONNAME in English sources where Polish name is used to avoid confusion with California. (as an aside, Table Mountains should probably redirect to Table Mountain (disambiguation)) In ictu oculi (talk) 23:07, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. My Google Books searches show that the Polish name predominates in English-language sources (even if nearly all of them also say something like, "which means "Table Mountains" in English"... I'd also go for In ictu's suggestion to redirect to the dab page. Dohn joe (talk) 21:27, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
