Thanks to whoever wrote this article. Wikipedia has needed an article on spike-sorting for some time.

There may be one small issue with what is written here though. Do we really want to make the claim that the local field potential reflects "synaptic activity"? Certainly the synaptic input to an area is a large part of what makes up the LFP... but I think it is misleading to be so definitive about this issue in this article.

Do we need to talk about "what the local field potential *is*" in this article at all? We could simply state that it is obtained by low-pass filtering the signal. Too much talk of the local field potential distracts from the point of the article- spike sorting.
