Requirements[edit]

What are the requirements? A computer that you can install Snapchat software on? A Snapchat account?

Hi @75.101.109.148: You need an iPhone 5 or newer running iOS 8+ or a phone running Android 4.3+, in addition to a Snapchat account. Spectacles glasses capture video in a circular format, as shown in the thumbnail to the right. Snap Inc claims this is to more closely approximate the field of view of the human eye.

Oh, the (checks a good wikipedia article) "roughly 210-degree horizontal and 130-degree vertical visual field" has collapsed into a circle where I can only see my hands cut off at the wrists when I hold them straight out?"

One of my favorite camera lenses is a 14-24mm ultra-wide with a FOV of about 115-degrees. This makes sense since it's about the same size as the center of my visual field, fills a 35mm frame, and isn't idiotically cropped into a circle. It could be managed on a harness if I needed to I suppose, and it would be wide enough to get video of anything where I had time to look around and remember to turn my torso where I looked, which would be awkward but worth it to avoid white-circle-vision. Were I shooting video while moving quickly (although it's primarily an astrophotography lens) I'd probably switch to a 15mm diagonal fisheye with a closer-to-human 180-degree field of vision. If I were a skateboarder, or out skiing, I'd probably just use a full circular fisheye and catch as much motion as I could. I certainly wouldn't stick a cardboard tube in front of the lens that actually approximated human binocular vision kinda sorta to keep it from seeing most of what I could. Of course, I don't smoke crack. Anyway that whole stupid mess needs to be rephrased to something more along the lines of "This is what the videos look like. No, we didn't put a white border around it." For now I did what I good and removed all the press releases about how to connect this crazy new "bluetooth" tech to your iphone and whatnot from the following paragraph and hopefully made at least one person slightly less stupid by protecting them from a press release.
