Does this province exist?[edit]

Hi. The only reference to the existence of this new province states that the Indonesian parliament has passed a law establishing it. However, there are no citations stating that the province has actually been established. This is similar to the case of West Papua - the law establishing it was passed in 1999, but the province was not inaugurated until 2003. The process for the other Papuan provinces was also convoluted. Wikipedia must be based on verified facts, not on WP:SYNTH, WP:OR or the wishes of Indonesian or Papuan officials. If this article is not to be deleted, at the very least it needs to be moved to something like Southwest Papua (proposed province). Any thoughts? @Davidelit I would argue that the province de jure existed since the law has been passed, but wont be de facto existing until the acting governor is appointed.
There was a similar problem with other new Papuan province (South Papua, Highlands Papua, and Central Papua) where several editors debated whether the province establishment is when the law is passed or when the acting governor is appointed. Also to complicate it even further, there are instruments and bodies created usually very recent in the aftermath of a province creation in form of province's secretariat such as in case with Highlands Papua, and also organization preceeding it (the presidium on preparation of provinces, which are present in even many obscure proposed provinces).
Probably its better to state that the province exist according to the law, but it has not yet have its acting governor appointed as with how we did with other new Papuan provinces previously. Nyanardsan (talk) 08:46, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is this article serious?[edit]

Is this so-called "province" a genuine one? Why is this province called "Southwest Papua"? Who came up with this silly name? If we base ourselves on the New Guinea Island, this region is on the "northwest" of the island. If we base ourselves on Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, then this region is on the "northeast" of the capital city. Unless we base ourselves on Hawaii Island, that's no way this province should be called "Southwest Papua", but Hawaii isn't a part of Indonesia. 2001:8003:9100:2C01:ACFE:7B23:904F:A674 (talk) 07:32, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
