Purpose of this article[edit]

I have written this article to provide an overview of L&SWR activity in the West of England.

There is of course an L&SWR article at one end of the scale, and detailed stuff about, for instance, the Lyme Regis branch at the other. However I see a need for an article outlining the strategy in the West of England and the sequence of events and how they fit together geographically. This could just be part of the L&SWR article, but golly, it would be jolly long and difficult to read.

There is also a West of England Main Line article, majoring on present day configurations. But I don't see any satisfactory way of eliminating these numerous overlaps.
