Type of educational institution and McLean name[edit]
PigeonChickenFish thank you for your work on the article. I have a couple of questions. The article refers to SKC as a school, while the History of higher education in Kentucky refers to it as a college. Which is better in US English? Secondly, should it be categorised as a private college? Thirdly, it seems likely that McLean College was named after the author of The History of the Foreign Christian Missionary Society. Hello! It started as a girls finishing school, then later it was a private college (but it is the same school). The citation used in the current WP article explained the naming of McLean. PigeonChickenFish, I understand that SKC started as a girls finishing school, then later was a college. I am suggesting calling it a school or institute when it was a school and a college when it was a college, as the History of higher education in Kentucky does. I am asking on the talk page as I use UK English, not US English. I have updated the categorisation to Defunct private universities and colleges in Kentucky.
I noted that it is likely that McLean College was named after Archibald McLean (1850-1920), the author of The History of the Foreign Christian Missionary Society, 1919, in case any future reader of the talk page wants to investigate further. The FCMS and the college were both linked to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and according to the title page Archibald McLean was president of the FCMS. @TSventon: I see. In American English we consider colleges, universities, elementary school, and etc. are all types of schools. The term "school" is fairly interchangeable. It probably was a private college and private school but I am not fully confident, and that could be further developed - most citations used vague language like a "community-based school".
