Assessment and Scope[edit]

Classed as stub. This article needs clarification of scope - is the only qualification the size of the boat or is there some doctrine involved? If the former, it is patently wrong to place the origin in WWII. If the latter, do E-boat operations fit (or are they part of coastal warfare?). What about riverine operations?
