Sky Brown's birthday is July 7th, 2008. Her birthday is not on July 12th, but it is on July 7th. 71.95.56.2 (talk) 22:23, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please provide a reliable source for this. Multiple newspapers say it is 12 July, and others that she'll be 13 years and 11 days at the start of the Olympics (which only works if date is 12 July). Joseph2302 (talk) 22:26, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have started a discussion at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard#Birth date disagreement, as there is a source given on my talkpage for 7 July, but many sources say 12 July. Joseph2302 (talk) 23:21, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Birthday is the 7TH of july 2008 not the 12th of july 2008. 81.206.228.88 (talk) 13:57, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

See answer directly above, this is being discussed. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:34, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No birth date[edit]

The discussion at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard#Birth date disagreement had a very clear outcome: we should not be posting the birth dates of minors, as per WP:BLPPRIVACY and WP:MINORS. Therefore, no date of birth should be added to this article, and no requests to add a date of birth will be accepted. 08:56, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Date of Birth published by the IOC[edit]

Should this olympic athlete's date of birth be an actual concern or even be contested given that she is already registered at the Olympics' database [1] and therefore, we have finally found a reliable source?

This would need a discussion at WP:BLPN, as there was a recent discussion there saying that we shouldn't post it. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:39, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Youngest British Summer Olympian?[edit]

According to the Great Britain at the 1932 Winter Olympics article, "The Great Britain team included 11-year-old figure skater Cecilia Colledge - the youngest ever British athlete to appear in the Olympic Games (Winter or Summer)." JezGrove (talk) 21:16, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth[edit]

Is there any actual reason we haven't included her date of birth from the Olympics database? Don't just point me in the direction of some discussion, explain as it's making Wikipedia look stupid, as normal.— Preceding unsigned comment added by an unspecified IP address

Yes, the discussion that says we shouldn't post dobs for minors. Joseph2302 (talk) 16:41, 6 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It strikes me as odd that, of all of the athletes participating in skateboarding at the 2020 Olympics, Brown is the only one for whom inclusion of DOB has even been raised as an issue. It is not standard practice on Wikipedia to omit birthdays of any Olympic athlete, minor or adult, as their birthdates are very widely published and encyclopedia worthy. Brown wasn’t even the youngest competitor in the women's park event final – just the youngest to represent an English-speaking nation – and the obsessive concern with her protection and privacy while showing no such regard to her younger, Japanese competitor is biased, whether intentional or not. This debate has surpassed its usefulness and a new discussion ought to be raised if no concessions will be made without one. – Spitzmauskc (talk) 02:08, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Seems an odd thing to omit her birth date when we include that on such a date (the day she won the skateboarding bronze medal) she was 13 years and 28 days. From which we can conclude her birth date was……..--Egghead06 (talk) 05:02, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I also don't see an issue with stating her birth date, but this may need a other BLP noticeboard discussion (if we want to overrule the previous discussion). As long as it's explicitly published in RS (which wasn't the case prior to the Games). Joseph2302 (talk) 06:25, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also whatever discussion went on, we are not following the ruling. The two younger 2020 Olympic participants mentioned in Sky Brown’s article, both have their birthdates given in their articles??--Egghead06 (talk) 06:33, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It strikes me odd why there's such a policy while there have been minors with their DOBs stated on Wikipedia for quite a long time and this single article is the first time I've seen someone bat an eye. I mean, if it's on the internet already on a reliable source what's the matter? Is it because Sky Brown has more of a "internet-star" profile than the other dozens of athletes who are achieving sucess on amateur sports such as figure skating (good luck erasing date of births of all teenaged figure skaters who have their own Wikipedia articles) and skateboarding itself (as Kokona Hiraki, women's park olympic silver medalist, has her DOB explicitly stated on her Wikipedia page and she isn't even 13 yet)? Either let the DOB be here already or we must to start a long and tedious job of editing hundreds of pages that don't follow this policy (which isn't even featured at Wikipedia:MINORS as stated above, the only rule is about paying attention to the sources, which has been done). I'd say the only matter regarding Brown's DOB in specific is that it was disputed, as, for some reason, prior to the games some newspapers were stating it as the 12th instead of the 7th. Regardless, it is been confirmed now to be the 7th by an actual reliable source so I really don't see what's the issue anymore.Gwennire (talk) 17:23, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to everyone who has responded here. I’ve started a discussion (Use of DOB in article for skateboarder Sky Brown) at the BLP Noticeboard in an effort to overrule the previous decision and would appreciate your input. – Spitzmauskc (talk) 00:32, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, after reviewing the Noticeboard discussion, it appears that there is good justification for including the exact DOB. Not only is her DOB widely published in RS (including the BBC), but WP:CALC suggests this is permissible. "Basic arithmetic, such as adding numbers, converting units, or calculating a person's age is almost always permissible.Kerdooskis (talk) 14:58, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The reading of Kanji Characters is complex. 澄海 Can be read as Chokai, but that is unlikely for a proper name. It is obvious that that pair of kanji characters was chosen because her mother knew it could also be read as Sukai. 2001:8003:3460:A200:E85A:D997:B24D:9271 (talk) 06:12, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The article states the followers on Instagram to be "over 602,000". They are however, over 1.3 million. [1] The articles states the views on YouTube to be "over 29 million". The are however, over 57 million. [2] Neerav singla (talk) 05:02, 28 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've taken it out for concerns of due weight. Being a social media influencer is not her main job and is not important in the career section, and also sounds a bit promotional.  Ganbaruby! (talk) 05:47, 28 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
