Community rail[edit]

Although the Shrewsbury to Chester Line has a Rail Partnership, I don't think it is a designated community railway. I find the community railway scheme very confusing. Can somebody clarify the matter please? Biscuittin (talk) 23:42, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious text[edit]

Not sure I have ever heard of "Severn-Dee Mainline" ... isn't that a bit whimsical? Wouldn't it be Main Line (two words) anyway? (If two railway enthusiasts met in the pub and called it the "Severn-Dee Mainline" that doesn't make it a notable attribution.

Robert Stephenson was not a contractor for railway construction, and certainly never as someone else's partner. There was another Stevenson who often worked in association with Brassey. I suspect it was him. Can't lay my hands on the data at this moment.

The community rail partnership assertion is not supported by https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/community-rail-lines and the link on the wiki page is broken. Afterbrunel (talk) 11:13, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The page at present states that "Campaigns for both the re-opening of Baschurch Station and Lache Station[citation needed] (near the site of the old Saltney Station) are now under way." The citation does not support the reference to Lache. The Baschurch citation is a basic website quoting a letter to Lord Adonis in 2009. NPOV for Wrexham and Shropshire[edit]

The article is reasonably balanced about the failure of Wrexham and Shropshire, but it is regrettable that the source cited in support of the text is sensationalist. "You can get off at Wolverhampton but you can’t get on: How crazy rules killed Britain’s last great railway" is not a proper tone for Wikipedia. The rule was imposed to protect the existing franchisee. If that had not been done, then the existing franchisee would have had a legitimate claim against the DfT.

You might or might not think that the franchising system is the right way to manage the railways, but in the environment actually in operation, the rule was appropriate. Whether Wrexham and Shropshire was "Britain's last great railway" is an inappropriate comment. "Britain’s best loved railway company"? "bringing to an end ... an era of gracious rail travel extending back almost 150 years."?
