Rationale[edit]
When this article became a GA it was very different from today's version. I have problems with that version in the first place, and with the GA review, which the word "cursory" doesn't really describe very well.
Right now, the article has become a fansite like so many of the K-pop articles, and does not deserve GA status. The fan-aspect of it is evident from the plethora of trivia: every single announcement is listed, every concert performance is documented, et cetera. The prose is no more than pedestrian. Some examples:
- "They have also won many awards" (from the lead)
- "On March 8, 2012 the teaser photos of the members were revealed, starting with Minho and ending with Jonghyun on March 12.[61][62] On March 18, 2012 a teaser for Shinee's "Sherlock" music video was released on SM Entertainment's YouTube channel."
- "On the same day, a repackage album of The Shinee World titled Amigo was released. The re-packaged album contained three new songs: "Forever or Never", a remix of "Sa. Gye. Han (Love Should Go On)" (사.계.한) and the promotional single "Amigo" (아.미.고).[17] "Amigo" is a shortened version of the Korean phrase "Areumdaun Minyeorueljoahamyeon Gosaenghanda" (아름다운 미녀를 좋아하면 고생한다 lit. Heart Aches When You Fall In Love With a Beauty).[13]" (The Shinee World has an article where this sort of detail, if it is necessary in the first place, can be listed--in fact, it's there in the lead. Note faulty grammar.)
- "On November 18, 2011, It was announced Onew, Key, and Taemin would release book about their travels in Barcelona, Spain, becoming the first Korean idols to ever author a "vacation guide". They created a collection of their travels and titled their guide, Son of the Sun. The book was released on December 8, 2011.[52]" (Note again the typical ESL problems with grammar and prepositions, which currently are found all over the article.)
A few individual examples may not give a full indication of how bloated this article is. Many of these factoids are sourced to unreliable sources like Allkpop, a portal/news site in which I have no confidence whatsoever. For this travel book, for instance, the source is this, which appears to be nothing more than a regurgitated press release--perhaps not even chewed before it was spewed out. It is hard to tell whether these are the efforts of dedicated fans with more love for their idols than knowledge of Wikipedia; I'm beginning to suspect, after running through a couple of dozen such articles, that the management of S.M. Entertainment has found its way to Wikipedia. The template "S.M. Entertainment" and articles such as Yoo Young-jin (unverified, for a company executive) suggest this as well.
At any rate, the current state of the article is that it's a fansite (or a promotional vehicle), its sources are not up to GA snuff, the prose is poor, and it's bloated with trivia. I think this should be delisted. For now I'm refraining from putting a "fansite" tag on it because it still has a green star, but I think such a tag and removal of the star is more than justified. It has a lot of fanbased(WP:Fancruft) information and needs to be kept neutral(WP:NPOV) as it is very heavily biased towards the group itself. It may have a lot of information on the group but half of the material there is unsourced and relies heavily on fan's perspective/opinion about the group. Bleubeatle (talk) 01:31, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
