I am not a railway expert but I don't think Shelley had a railway station prior to the construction of the terminus by Kirklees Light Railway. Looking at the route map of Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway [1] there was 'Shepley and Shelley' as a single station on the Huddersfield-Sheffield (now Penistone) Line. Coming at the problem from another angle, the Clayton West branch was constructed with only Skelmanthorpe and Clayton West stations so even if Shelley station had existed previously, it could not have been on the site of the current Shelley station.
