I agree that anyone who lived in Ann Arbor would almost certainly refer to the subject as "Shakey Jake", and not "Shakin' Jake". But there are several sources that, for whatever reason, went with the latter and it's correct to note both the alternate use and note that it was only "sometimes". A Google search turns up a lot of them, here being just 4 (one already in the article).
