CP133 2019 Group 19 Peer Review[edit]

I think Group 20 did a good job selecting relevant and important information to add the the article, as well as edit to make the article better formatted for readers! This article is still pretty bare overall so it has a lot of room for improvement, but Group 20 definitely seems to have taken the right approach that will help future editors on this page. I think a couple possible things that also could be added is information about the different perspective on mental disorders depending on the country under the global section, as well as possibly a new section that talks about the different barriers that exist that could make mental disorders a harder topic to approach in the health field, such as language barriers or social prejudice. From what I see, Group 20 did a good job maintaining a neutral point-of-view with their edits because they are fact based and not opinions that could be slipped into a fact-based article. Group 20 is doing a great job in adding more necessary information to this article. I appreciate that the sections are divided as well and one can find information quickly by following the headers. One thing the group can work on is to elaborate on these sections, but I do recognize that a lot of the information mentioned has its own wikipedia page. I thought that the sources were appropriate as they are available online. I'd like to suggest however that sources #4 and #5 should be looked at again. These sources look like they are primary sources. Ebang21 (talk) 21:54, 6 November 2019 (UTC)ebang21[reply]

Looking at the article before Group 20's edits, there was room for much improvement. Before reading their talk page on what each member wanted to change and add, I was already hoping to see that examples of medical facilities that provide these services and more examples of mental health services be included. It was great to see that this group acknowledged that and included these edits. One improvement in this article could be the order of the article titles. In the introduction section or beginning paragraph, "legal services" were described right after "medical services", however, it is not reflected that way in the sections below. The introduction could be rearranged according to what topics within these services that they would like to prioritize to show better organization and clarity. Other than this area of improvement, Group 20's edits are formatted with Wikipedia's manual of style.Lexjennifer (talk) 22:03, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Like the others have stated before me, I agree that this article was missing important information that Group 20 added. This included the types of services provided to those with mental health disorders and some of the limitations that someone may have when receiving them. Including more information about global prevalence is useful and objective for anyone searching this topic. For someone coming to this article in the future, possibly a family member of someone with a mental disorder, they can extract more information after the edits than before. That is not to say that the article is now perfect nor has all the pertinent information; it is nonetheless better. After viewing the links that the groups cited, I was unable to find evidence that there was plagiarism or copyright violations. Amunoz18 (talk)

Response to feedback from Group 19[edit]

As a group, we added the following edits to the article, as recommended by our peers. A brief paragraph about different perspectives on mental disorders depending on the country under the Global Section, along with some information on traditional healers, which is also linked to a different Wikepedia article mentioning more information about the same topic. new section that talks about the different barriers that exist that could make mental disorders a harder topic to approach in the health field, such as language barriers or social prejudice. We also added a paragraph about social stigma and language barriers that might limit access to mental health services under the Phone Services sub-section. Additionally, we replaced a couple of citations that did not match the Wikipedia standards with more reputable sources. The introductory paragraph was rearranged to reflect the order in which sub-sections and information was presented in the rest of the article. We proofread the Medical Services section, provided more specific details/advantages/disadvantages of behavioral therapy, as well as further developed the Social Services sections. CP133 2019 Group 20 Proposed Edits[edit]

Individual Therapy Services- offer more examples of services that are meant to assist those with a mental disorder, such as medications, electroconvulsive therapy, or interpersonal psychotherapy. Dylannand (talk) 03:08, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

When discussing medical services, it is important to provide an overview of all the types of medical services prior to going into each type. For example, we should preface the discussion by stating that there are multiple types of medical service settings: family practice, psychiatric hospitals, general hospitals, and community mental health services. It is also important to discuss reimbursement and how patients pay for the service. Are these institutions open to anyone? Are there in v. out of network restrictions? And how do pharmacological and non-pharmacological options tie into payment and medical services for patient care?Ryan.Thaliffdeen (talk) 05:19, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Social care services and Consumer, survivor and ex-patient services sections can be combined since many of the community services/resources for individuals with mental illnesses are offered by nonprofit organizations (ex. hotlines, national groups). It would be helpful to include similarities and differences between custodial housing and supportive housing. Also, elaborate on the criteria used to determine one’s eligibility to receive such services. Include info on deinstitutionalization and its effects on individuals with mental disorders (ex. SB 1045 conservatorship bill in San Francisco). NishaMJohn (talk) 09:57, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The 'Global situation' section lacks concrete information and data regarding the current backdrop i.e. global situation of mental disorders. Statistics along with relevant assessments highlighting the current global prevalence, disease burden, etc. should be described, at bare minimum. Only when a need is identified should reform propositions be suggested. Preliminary edits: In 2017, more than 970 million or 1-in-7 individuals were purported to have one or more mental or substance use disorder [1]. Anxiety and depressive disorders were, by far, the most attributed [2]. Moreover, around 5% (up to 12%) of global disease burden was attributable to mental or substance use disorders. Countries that have the greatest disease burden from mental or substance use disorders include Kuwait, Qatar, Australia, among others [3].
