Renaming?[edit]

See Category talk:Mining disasters for a discussion on whether to rename this and similar articles to remove the capitalisation. Ziggurat 21:37, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Death toll[edit]

I have removed the complete list of 439 names. Although the event is tragic, Wikipedia is not a memorial, and there is good precedent that verbatim lists like this are best linked to on external sites. — BillC talk 09:00, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comment[edit]

how many people died in this awful disaster? 439 people died and one rescuer died, named William John. so that makes it 40 people sadly died. how sad?--86.31.85.169 (talk) 15:59, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This comment was (presumably mistakenly) posted on the article page. Gareth (talk) 16:05, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm guessing that the mistaken comment also has a typo 439 dead plus 1 rescuer would be 440 dead (not per the presumed typo 40 dead) - and I'm guessing that's what the comment intended to convey. EdwardLane (talk) 09:04, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fines[edit]

The welshcoalmines reference says that the total fines were £24, not £24 to the manager and £10 to the owner, as stated here. Presumably Lewis's £10 came out of the £24. Bdellovibrio (talk) 14:09, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Updating[edit]

I'll be working on this article over the next month or so, with the aim of taking it to FA at the end. Wikimedia UK have kindly provided a grant for one of the more expensive sources, and have notified the National Library of Wales, who have offered assistance, including translating the article into Welsh for the page on that Wiki. I intend to work in my userspace and then drop each section in place when it is completed. This may lead to some clunky-looking sections, but all will come right in the end, I hope! Please feel free to drop comments here or on my talk, as well as to copy edit any of the sections I drop into place. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 13:33, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are to be heartily congratulated for this undertaking. Well done. I will try and support in any way I can. Regards. Martinevans123 (talk) 15:04, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks Martin, much appreciated. If you, or anyone else, want to look at the work in progress it can be found here. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 15:09, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
