  • Hello. I'll be reviewing this article in the next few days--it should not take me too long. Thanks for the interesting article! I'm excited to learn something new. Cheers, ComputerJA (talk) 18:40, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Review[edit]

The article is in very good shape. I don't think the article needs a lot of improvements. Below are a few of my minor concerns before the article passes:

  • "It is known to occur in the northern Gulf of Mexico" – The sentence is a bit confusing. Do you mean that the confusion occurs in the northern Gulf of Mexico, or that there are reports that it is found in that area? Consider making a short revision.
Changed to just "occurs" and moved the sentences around to clarify things. -- Yzx (talk) 19:36, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • "for example, squid are more important in winter." – It might not come out in the source, but why is squid more important in winter? Source 6 mentions that they are important, but it does not mention why seasons matters. I think explaining that, if possible, might be a good addition.
Added note about potential differences in prey availability across seasons. -- Yzx (talk) 19:36, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • "give birth to 4–15 pups in spring or early summer" – The pups in the intro are different than the ones on mentioned in the second paragraph of Biology and ecology.
Fixed. -- Yzx (talk) 19:36, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • "this is consistent with the precipitating event being the splitting of the ancestral population by the rising Isthmus of Panama." – The sentence sounds a bit strange. I re-read the source but could not figure out another way to re-word the sentence. What I got from the source is that there is a second sister group that originated thanks to the rise of the Isthmus of Panama. I think that if you simplify it to something similar to that would be better.
Rewrote to: "Molecular clock estimation has timed the divergence of S. dumeril and S. californica at c. 6.1 Ma, around the time that the Isthmus of Panama formed. It is likely that the rise of the Isthmus split the ancestral angel shark population, leading to their becoming separate species." -- Yzx (talk) 19:36, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
