"Excepting the 1980 and 1998 Winter Olympics they have participated in every edition of the Winter Olympics since" Comma needed between "Olympics" and "they".

Maybe you should use the demonym instead of "they".

"As he was the lowest ranked competitor in the giant slalom he was last in the starting order on 20 February." Comma needed between "slalom" and "he".
