Orphaned references in Sam Smith discography[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Sam Smith discography's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 00:00, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sam Smith's Debut Album[edit]

I was looking through Sam Smith's music on Apple Music, and I found an album called, Sam Smith Diva Boy [1]. Should this be included under the Studio Album section? The reason I'm asking is because In the Lonely Hour is often considered to be their debut album, not Sam Smith Diva Boy, despite the fact that the latter was released around six years before In the Lonely Hour was released. If this will not be included in the Studio Album section, what section should this be under in? There is also the Sam Smith Diva Boy (Film Soundtrack) [2], which is also missing from this discography page. CountyCountry (talk) 06:39, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Max24:, @AshMusique:, @Gagaluv1:, @Doggy54321:, and @Hayman30: What are your thoughts on this? CountyCountry (talk) 00:19, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

My opinion is that if majority of sources mention this album as their debut, then we should put it in. If majority of sources say In the Lonely Hour is their debut, then we should go with that. From what I’m seeing right now, the latter is mostly correct. Maybe we could put it under the EP section? D🐶ggy54321 (let's chat!) 00:38, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Doggy54321: Maybe we can make a section titled "Independent albums" and put Sam Smith Diva Boy in this section. I've found reliable sources saying that this is an album and that it was released by an independent label.[3][4][5] Meghan Trainor discography also has a section for independent albums. I know that WP:Other stuff exists, but this is something interesting to look at. Also, a section called "Soundtracks" could be named, and we could put Sam Smith Diva Boy (Film Soundtrack) under this section. CountyCountry (talk) 01:59, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@CountyCountry: that sounds like a plan! The "Independent albums" and "Sountracks" sections sound like a good idea. D🐶ggy54321 (let's chat!) 02:08, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@CountyCountry: Hi. I have already made an article for The Lost Tapes – Remixed. Everything is explained there. This Diva Boy album wasn't released in 2008. So In the Lonely Hour is the debut album. After the success of In the Lonely Hour, The Lost Tapes – Remixed was released in 2015 with remixed songs from 2008. When i was making the article for The Lost Tapes – Remixed in October 2017, the album Diva Boy still wasn't out. It is also in the article, read it please. I've seen it suddenly appeared later in the streaming services, but don't know the exact date, surely after 2017 (it must be checked). Maybe it should be added to the The Lost Tapes – Remixed article as a new section there? And in the discography page, surely not as a debut album. Max24 (let's chat!) 06:34, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Max24: Hi Max24. I looked into this more and realized that the articles about the album said that it was recorded in 2008 and not released in 2008, and that has a different meaning. I looked into this further and saw that Amazon Music and Napster has the release date listed as January 2019. Amazon Music was more specific and said January 4, 2019. It was also released onto YouTube on January 4, 2019. It says January 3, 2019 for me, but I think that is because of the time zone difference. Apple Music put 2008, but I think that's an error. So it seems like the album was released on January 4, 2019. As for the soundtrack, I looked into that and Amazon has it listed on January 4, 2019, YouTube has it listed on January 4, 2019 (it says January 3, 2019 for me because of the time zone difference), Napster says January 2019. So the release date for the soundtrack is on January 4, 2019. Does this sound correct to you? I'm planning on putting Sam Smith Diva Boy under the independent albums section and the film soundtrack under the soundtrack section. @Doggy54321: Thanks. And thank you for contributing to this discussion. CountyCountry (talk) 20:10, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@CountyCountry: Hi. I'm wondering if there's a need for two albums: Diva Boy and Soundtrack? It's basically the same album, one has just few more songs. So it's like basic and extended edition. And these are the songs that were remixed and already released on The Lost Tapes – Remixed. It is frustrating that someone wants to make money and releases Smith older recordings and creates so many versions of the same old songs from 2008. I would add one album under independent albums section, Diva Boy (with note about Soundtrack) or maybe even two titles next to each other but one album / one position. Max24 (let's chat!) 20:45, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Max24: I'm fine with including the original album under the independent albums section and having the soundtrack in a note. I also do agree that these albums were released just to get more money. Sam Smith even objected to those releases. CountyCountry (talk) 23:48, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
