Sam/Santana relationship[edit]

I noticed that Santana was not included among Sam's significant others, and a "warning" was posted against adding her, without any supporting discussion here. That's not appropriate; these are not decisions that should be made by one person. While not including Mercedes is consistent with the consensus-established rule against one-episode relationships ("significant" is subjective), Santana and Sam lasted longer than one episode, so you need to explain that one. As noted elsewhere, there was discussion of the matter at the time the "one-episode relationships" rule was abandoned last spring, and also specific discussion of why Sam and Santana were not significant. The warning is being reinstated pending further discussion here.

Okay, WHAT do you consider significant? Didn't Sam date Santana pretty much as long as he dated Quinn? It is very clear that these decisions are being made by folks with their own agenda and are letting their bias outweigh this site stating facts as it is supposed to. To the point of absurdity if you are saying that Quinn was a 'significant' other but not Santana. If a relationship is 'significant' is determined by....what? You argue this all over the place but never state how YOU define and/or determine what is significant and what is shy of that. You say in one place that 'dating' defines significance and in another you say that I'd love to know because I am fully convinced at this point it is what YOU think was good or something you liked or approved of, which is not appropriate here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.43.231.201 (talk) 21:32, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Quinn and Sam were significant because she accepted his promise ring. While not an engagement ring, it's a serious step in that direction: clearly significant, a pledge of exclusivity, and a declaration of love. Quinn violated her pledge in "Silly Love Songs", of course, but they were an exclusive couple for over two months. Santana and Sam are iffy: Santana seems to have wanted a boy attached to here, but as she says later to Brittany, none of them meant anything. She snags Sam at the end of "Comeback", they're together in "Blame It on the Alcohol", but by the next episode, "Sexy", she realizes she's in love with Brittany. I don't see how Sam can be significant to her at that point, and the fact that they are still "dating" for another few weeks clearly doesn't matter to Santana except as cover; she grabs Karofsky as better cover (and a better chance at prom queen) without a care for Sam's feelings.

We haven't really talked about the possibility that it may have been significant to one of the people but not to the other. I'm not sure we want to go there, though. I think "significant other" implies that there are two people involved who are emotionally important to each other, beyond the simple act of dating for a little while. Kurt[edit]

Despite in-show rumors to the contrary, Sam is not gay. He and Kurt were never a couple and so to have Kurt listed as Sam's significant other is wrong and a bit troll-ish. IJVin (talk) 10:06, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rachel as significant other[edit]

Yes. I think we need to wait until we are sure that this has become significant—to see whether it goes beyond a few dates into an actual commitment. Rachel's on a trajectory to New York, and Sam seems to be set in Lima. This might or might not turn into anything real: there's no rush to add this here (and by extension in Rachel's article), as this is still far less significant than any of the other relationships listed on their two pages. (And it's only been two episodes, really: Sam was hypnotized in the ones before that, and we can't count either of them as real for this purpose.) Hey I know this is literally from 2015 but like should she be added now that the show has ended and we can truly evaluate whether or not she qualifies as a significant other?
