Marion S. (Sally) OeySally Oey – Place here your rationale for the proposed page name change, ideally referring to applicable naming convention policies and guidelines. Hello, I am Sally Oey, and I request that you remove all reference to my given name as soon as possible. I am very distressed that my given name is on Wikipedia. This is personal data that I do not wish to show on Wikipedia of all places. Any questions, please email me -- my email address is readily available via my website. Also, I know that you keep all old versions of Wikipedia entries, but I request that you delete the old versions showing my full name, again because I would like to keep that info private. Thank you!!! 131.111.1.66 (talk) 23:44, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your full name is available from several academic papers that are posted online, so removing it from Wikipedia is not going to ensure your privacy on its own. However I have proposed deletion of the page on the grounds of non-notability, hope this helps. Little Professor (talk) 12:00, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I think her proper name may be Marion Siang-Li Oey.[1] "Sally" should probably be removed from the article name for propriety.—RJH (talk) 20:14, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Surely we go by what Reliable Sources say? The website [2] for the Annie J. Cannon Award in Astronomy gives the name in exactly the form "Marion S. (Sally) Oey". The University Directory [3], linked to off her home page [4] also records this as an alternative form of her name. If Dr Oey does not wish to be known by this version of her name I respectfully suggest that it is not Wikipedia's fault. BTW I note that 131.111.*.* locates to Cambridge University, not Michigan. Note: M.S. Oey (1996) is a reliable source, based upon her Doctoral Thesis. Ergo, she was using the name "Marion Siang-Li Oey" in 1996.—RJH (talk) 17:01, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, we should still have the article title be the name she actually uses (Sally). But the other variants of her name can appear in the article as long as they are reliably sourced, and it sounds like they are. —David Eppstein (talk) 17:55, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removed Prod[edit]

I've removed the prod tag. With all due respect, it's nonsense to list this article for prod under the concern of "unsourced and non-notable", both of which are conspicuously false. She won an important award in astronomy, rendering her notable prima facie and this is sourced by the American Astronomical Society's own award listing, entirely independent of Oey. The prod appears to have been nothing more than an attempted end-run to address alleged privacy concerns of the subject. Those are an altogether different matter, but it's unclear whether those concerns are even genuine. Agricola44 (talk) 22:54, 5 May 2011 (UTC).[reply]
