Incorrect information

The information below is for the anime. I can't account for the manga.

First, Minako was in England on information that the Dark Kingdom was there. There, she met Alan, and fell in love with him. Then, she came across a crime in progress. Katarina, THE ONLY INTERPOL OFFICER, was chasing a male criminal. The criminal held a little girl hostage, and turned into a youma. Sailor V appeared, destroyed the youma, and THEN Katarina and each other met. Katarina learned Minako was Sailor V, and then taught Minako English, and Minako adored her like a big sister. Minako. introduced Alan to Katarina, and the two fell in love too. Then, Sailor V and Katarina followed a criminal to an old abandoned warehouse, where someone tossed a grenade at Sailor V. The grenade exploded, sending Katarina flying. Katarina watched as the warehouse burned down, believing without a doubt that Minako was dead. Sailor V had escaped through an alley. Katarina found Alan, and told him Minako/Sailor V was dead. Sailor V watched, and made up her mind. She figured out that without her knowing, Alan and Katarina had fallen in deep love. She disappeared from both their lives. She thought they would be happier thinking she was dead. Later, the Dark Kingdom got word that Katarina knew Sailor V, and turned her into a youma to try to get information in Episode 42. The youma chased them down, and Sailor V was there trying to find Katarina. They found each other, the youma attacked, Usagi arrived and the two escaped on boat to an abandoned cruise ship. There, Minako told them her story, but Katarina-youma arrived, and Sailor Moon healed her with Moon Healing Escalation.

This is all the history. I'm going to leave this here in hopes someone will read it and add this CORRECT information because it's not up to standards, just written out.

I have something to add too.... She Does speak English in the manga as Codename wa sailor V was set in england! How could she be in england and not speak English! That fact needs changed (under her statistics) I don't know how someone thought she doesn't speak it in the manga.... Other Stuff

Sailor Venus doesn't have the ability to just 'create new attacks'. All of the Scouts,disregarding Sailor Moon, had 3 additional attacks that they had to discover, and the 'mini-meteor' attack you stated is her Crescent Beam Shower.

Second, In Sailor Moon S, an enemy was near unveiling Sailor Moon identity. So Sailor Venus used Sailor Moon Disguise Pen to disguise herself as Sailor Moon so that Sailor Moon true identity could remain secret. Her saying 'Love Me Moon Chain' was only done to further convince the enemy that she was Sailor Moon.

In the Sailor V manga, Sailor moon manga, and the times mentioned in the Sailor Moon anime she displays this ability more than any of the others though. It could be worded differently and just say she has more attacks in the manga and uses her abilities creatively several times in the anime; I didn't write it that way though. I only added the Love Moon Chain example. As Sailor V she may have just had lots of attacks since she was the main character before Sailor Moon was created though; she just kept these abilities and added to them into the Sailor Moon manga. --Sketchee 22:02, Feb 1, 2005 (UTC)

愛野美奈子 - Minako Aino

Let me start this by highlighting what I think needs changing in the current article:

Also, her family name, Aino (愛野) does not start with the same kanji as that of the Japanese name for her planet, Kinsei (金星). If the pattern of the other Senshi were followed, the logical name for her would be the characters 金野 (usually read Konno). It is possible that Naoko Takeuchi used the Roman goddess Venus as the basis for her name instead.

While it is true that according to the logic of the naming of the other characters her name would have been 金野 the main reason for her name being what it is is not stated here. The reason that her name is Aino Minako is because the kanji in her first name, Minako, are the following:

美奈子

These three characters are usually read "Minako" but Naoko Takeuchi was counting on her readers catching the pun that is created when you use an unconventional reading. The fact is that these three characters can also be read

美 = bi 奈 = na 子 = su

or the Japanese reading of Venus "Binasu". So her name, in kind of a funny way, could be read Aino Binasu or Aino Venus and thus in a less direct way preserving the naming pattern. --Schopenhauer7 14:30, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

Something I Didn't Add, but should be corrected

The reason Sailor Moon's and Sailor Venus's attacks overlap is due to their mythology. Venus, the goddess, was often associated with the moon, and therefore, there were several blatent revferences to this--such as the infamous switch, being mistaken for each other, and the overlap of the types of attacks. I didn't correct it because I'm feeling a little lazy and it would take a lot of work to separate that information and put it under mythology. Hitsuji Kinno 22:58, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

• Actually, the attacks "overlap" not because of mythology (Venus had little to do with the moon that I've ever read, that was her sister's, Artemis). The actual references to Usagi and Minako looking similar is because it is said that Earth and Venus are "sister planets". Usagi represents the Moon, which is an extension or part of the Earth and as such, Usagi is also the senshi of Earth (which is why there is none). Also, there is only ONE Moon in the entire universe, ours. All the other similar such planetoids are known as satellites and while sometimes people call them "Moons" they aren't actually since we have the only Moon (which is why there can be a Sailor Moon, but no Sailor Sun). Anyhow, THAT is why Venus and Moon look similar, not because of anything else. Elemental associations come from the fact that Sailor V wasn't meant to be part of the Sailor Moon series. Remember, Sailor V started out as it's own series. It wasn't until later that the 2 were combined, which is why there is overlap.
• No, Kinno-sensei is right. Aphrodite may not have been associated with the moon very much, but there was a large historical cult that considered Venus a moon goddess. Also to be honest, it's a stretch to say that our moon is the only moon; astronomers call the Earth moon "Luna", and moon and satellite are interchangeable. So, uh, yeah. • It's not a stretch. Our Moon is technically the only moon. The others are considered satellites. If there are so many moons out there, then there could not be a single Sailor Moon, there would be multiples. Our Moon is called.. Moon or "Luna" as you say (which means Moon). All the others have names. Titan is a satellite of Saturn for instance as Phobos and Deimos are Satellites of Mars (and subsiquently both of Mars's crows). In astronomy, Venus has been called the twin sister of Earth. Both planets are about the same size. For example: shouts "Moon Power Transform" and her compact has to be placed in the light of the full moon to charge it. In astronomy the two are alike, in that Venus undergoes phases like those of the Moon, even crescenting. Astrologically, they are also pretty close since Venus rules love and the Moon rules emotions"' [1]

.... Personally I'm going to file all of this under "fan speculation". But, my two cents: other natural satellites are commonly called moons, even by astronomers; in fact, by some definitions Terra and Luna are actually a double planet system – in which case Earth has no moon.  –Aponar Kestrel (talk) 17:43, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Sailor V/Element corrections

I fixed the blanatly wrong assumption that Sailor V was finished AFTER Sailor Moon. That's not true at all. It was finished DURING Sailor Moon. What happened was that Sailor V was a dismal failure, so Naoko-hime decided to incooperate the character into her new series, Sailor Moon, which was a monumental success. Once fans discovered that Minako had appeared before, they demanded that Codename wa Sailor V be finished, so Naoko finished it, switching the focus so that the Dark Agency was in fact aligned with the Dark Kingdom. Shortly AFTER Sailor Moon was finished, Naoko-hime was working on PQ Angels, her as to yet unfinished series with Nakayoshi, which was dropped after 4 months since Naoko-hime left Nakayoshi due to problems with Nakayoshi keeping her manuscripts. After that, she wrote Naoko-hime's Return to Society Punch, which explained it, fans got mad and Nakayoshi was forced to return the manuscripts. The feelings have been mended between the two.

Also, Sailor Venus has the element of metal. All her attacks in the original Manga are METAL based as she uses her whip/belt that is looped around her waist. The references to Love, Beauty and well the flirtacious wink (of Wink Chain Sword) come from the Greco-Roman elements of Venus.

Um Sailor V wasn't a "dismal failure" it was only intended as a one-off. Toei saw it's potential and contacted Naoko and asked if she could expand it into a sentai-like series with more than one magical girl. So Naoko eventually created Sailor Moon (the series was going to have Minako as the main character but for some reason Naoko changed her mind). Sailor V ran in Nakayoshi at a slower rate than Sailor Moon and finished after Saikor Moon (but not much later). GracieLizzie 10:34, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Consistency: Mercury's Profile as a template

Because of the problem of consistency between Senshi profiles, it's been proposed that we make one profile into a template for all the others. Currently, that one profile is Ami Mizuno's. Any changes to the general format of Senshi articles should be made there, and then copied to all the others. For more information or to make a comment, please see the appropriate section of the series Talk page, so that everyone else can see what you have to say!

So! The Sailor Venus article is a particularly tricky matter because she has two different aliases and is wildly different in PGSM. Following is the format we have been using so far--see the series Talk page for more detail. I'll make note of special altarations for the Venus article in parentheses.

• Lead section (Mention Sailor V series)
• Senshi Form (Talk about Sailor Venus, since that's her real role)
• Profile (Devote mostly to manga/anime, make a point of aiming people at the Variations section for PGSM info)
• Other forms (Princess Venus, and info about Sailor V. But see Note.)
• Statistics (as it stands now)
• Powers (Would contain Anime/manga and PGSM sections as normal, preceded by an 'As Sailor V' section)
• Variations (Would focus on the idol Minako of PGSM.)
• Actresses (As it stands now.)
• Other links

Note on Codename wa Sailor V: A lot of the information currently in the Sailor V section is about the series, not the character--in particular the publishing info and the comparison with the Sailor Moon series. I say that stuff should be moved to the already-existant Sailor V article, and this page should be reorganized to be about Minako.

Okay. I've done all the reorganizing and a lot of rewriting. I've also switched a lot of things over to the Codename wa Sailor V article, where they belonged--information that was about that series rather than Minako. What remains, I think, is to rewrite the Profile section and the Variations section. I'll get to those later.

General call for help: The 'Senshi powers' sections, for all characters but especially this one, could really use some fixing up. Their prose is often awful, occasionally far too detailed, and sometimes missing entirely. I don't know enough about the specific attacks to really contribute, so if anyone else does, I invite you to go to town on it. --Masamage 00:00, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Done! The Profile and Variations sections have been completely rewritten, which was the last thing left to do for this article. Most of the information that used to be there still is; however, I did remove the references to yuri fanfiction, and replaced the PGSM spoilers with specific character information. I hope it works! Birthplaces

Well, with the scouts, the word after "Sailor" let's you know where they were born, for example, Sailor Moon was born on the moon. --PJ Pete

Actually, it doesn't. Sailors Phobos and Deimos were born on Coronis, not the moons they're named after. The only Senshi Castles shown in the manga are orbitting their planets, not actually on the surface. It is never stated whether, say, Sailor Mars actually comes from Mars, or was just a Moon-born (or Earth-born) given responsibility for it. --Masamage 02:08, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

The majority of the info found under Statistics can be found in the back of the manga Vol. 10. I would cite this as the source, but unfortunately I'm not sure how. Kaitou Ace and more

Maybe this section could include information on her relationship with Kaitou Ace in her series. Also, do you think that maybe the part about her being attracted to Haruka isn't relevant with her character, since it conflicts with her general character. Does the creator's quote apply to her, is it relevant with her? Maybe the part about her attraction to Haruka and the following piece could be changed, as it could give viewers a misconception of her character, as the quote may not pertain to her, and a section about her relationship with Kaitou Ace added. Her bond with Zoisite in the live action version might be another addition, as many fans seem to ship it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MamoruDarienFan (talk • contribs)

All good points. This is just a preliminary thought, but maybe the thing about heterosexual girls being attracted to Haruka should be addressed on Haruka's page? Then the idea would still be covered, but more widely and more interestingly. (It needs to be somewhere, though, because they all totally are. (I love the first bunch of S episodes. Ahhhh.))

Kaitou Ace--is that her boyfriend from England? A whole section probably isn't necessary, but certainly a few sentences would be good. (Was that during the Sailor V series? If so, most of the information about it should be in that article, with this page only mentioning what the SM series says about it.) Editing and Fixes

I'm about to fix up the stats up to code, BUT the rest of the page looks like an awful mess. The anime is before the manga, bits of Sailor V are scattered in a confusing manner, the variations part is out of order, anime episode info needs to be cited correctly (not by Japanese titles, but by the system we've set up to cite episodes) and the bits just need general organizational info. So lots of reorganizing. I think this page suffered a lot by being listed last among the Inners. (I can't help feeling bad for Hotaru whose much later on...) As for info, there are a few bits of things I'd like to add, but it would be easier to add once this page is organized properly underneath the sections. Codename wa Sailor V, Sailor Moon manga, Sailor Moon Anime, Musicals, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. Rinse and repeat as needed. Volume 1, Vol. 1, pg 24 =P It looks like a diamond. Here's what Alex Glover says it says:

He points to another planet. "That is your mother star, the fiery planet of the goddess Venus. Its size and weight are about the same as Earth's. It's composed of the same elements. Venus is called Earth's twin planet."

"What's that floating?"

"Magellan. Magellan Castle. It floats over the land of Aphrodite. It's your castle."

"My castle!?"

Note that the explanation for why she's like Sailor Moon is partially there... twin planet, though the real reason has to do with how the moon is associated with Venus in mythology (Maiden Mother crone thing, also associated with the menses...). Should I scan the image? Should we put it up or mention it? This is from the Sailor V manga, BTW and from the art it looks like it predates the mention of the castles in the Dream arc, which means she knew about her castle (chronologically) before anyone else.. Image Change

Sailor Venus in Japanese

In Japanese, Sailor Venus is Seiraa Binusu (セイラア ビヌス). However, not only the sound of an "R" replaces the "L", the sound of a "B" replaces the "V". --PJ Pete

I'm not sure what you're getting at, but your spelling is slightly incorrect. Sailor Venus in Japanese is "Seeraa Biinasu" (セーラーヴィーナス). See this scan. --Masamage 00:54, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Well, that is really a scan from the manual from a Sailor Moon Super Famicom/SNES video game. It shows you what Sailor Venus' name is officially translated into Japanese. --PJ Pete

What scan? Mine was from the Materials Collection, which is written by Naoko Takeuchi. If you mean yours, I'm not sure what "translated into Japanese" means, since of course the English name is the translated one. I'm kind of doubtful that any of the Sailor Moon video games spell Venus's name differently from the manga, but if they do, I'm definitely putting my preference in Takeuchi's spelling.
