Fair use rationale for Image:Rovers1stSeries.jpg[edit]

Image:Rovers1stSeries.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 10:36, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Publication data[edit]

Who was the first publisher of these books? How did the arrangement change when Edward Stratemeyer founded his Stratemeyer Syndicate in 1906 (we say there)?

The U.S. Library of Congress catalogs two books in its collection as in "Famous Rover boys' series" --a listing derived from #13 The Rover Boys on Treasure Isle, 1909. For that so-called series it gives overall "place/Issuing body: NY Grosset & Dunlap".

Those two records in turn it give NY: The Mershon co., 1900 LCCN tmp9-600424 and NY: Chatterton-Peck Company, 1908 LCCN 08-2111. And give personal names Stratemeyer and Winfield respectively, for which it links 20 and 134 catalog records.

Questioning importance of Legacy and Main Characters[edit]

The Main Characters section appears to be a listing of just about everyone who appears in the books. Are all those names helpful? Also, some have a * after the name, but there's no information on what those *s represent.

I'm unsure if the trivia within the Legacy section is important. Instead of listing every time the series was mentioned on TV or films, would it be better to just state the books were popular, and then give two or three examples of the series being mentioned?

I'm no expert on the Rover Boys, I came here to learn a little, noticed the lack of references, and did some research to add sources. I don't feel comfortable deleting big chunks of the Main Characters and Legacy sections when I've never read any of the books, so I'll just record my concerns.
