Cleanup needed?[edit]

A couple of thoughts:

Are the quotations really helping the article?
The bibliography is quite long - could it be trimmed?
"Press cuttings" could probably be merged into the article rather than being separate.

Le Pen[edit]

His recent French biographer Antoine Deléry wrote that he effectively met Le Pen and that he rather praised him as a man, but that he formally didn't support him politically. By the way, he supported formally Giscard d'Estaing and Jacques Chirac in 1974 and 1981, so the article is somewhat misleading. Frimoussou (talk) 10:19, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The French version[edit]

The French Wikipedia article https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Peyrefitte has considerably more about Peyrefitte's sexuality, including this entire section on "The Love of Boys":

Peyrefitte s'est toujours, comme André Gide, proclamé pédéraste plutôt qu'homosexuel : « J'aime les agneaux, disait-il, pas les moutons. »9 Plus encore que Paul Verlaine, Gide et Jean Cocteau, et au contraire d'Henry de Montherlant dont il fut longtemps un ami, il conçoit sa carrière littéraire comme un engagement littéraire et assidu en faveur de l'amour des garçons. En 1954, il participe à la fondation de l'association et revue homosexuelle Arcadie, lancée par André Baudry qu'il soutient activement (avec André du Dognon, Jacques de Ricaumont, et Jean Cocteau qui offre un dessin pour le premier numéro)10,11. Roger Peyrefitte fut également membre du comité d'honneur de l'association homosexuelle, GAGE. Il devait en être exclu après des propos jugés antisémites, lors d'un débat public en 1990 ; l'écrivain Renaud Camus sera solidaire de Peyrefitte et démissionnera à ce sujet10. Like André Gide, Peyrefitte always identified himself as a pederast rather than a homosexual: "I like lambs," he used to say, "not sheep." Even more so than Paul Verlaine, Gide, and Jean Cocteau, but unlike his longtime friend Henry de Montherlant, he thought of his literary career as a literary struggle on behalf of the love of boys. In 1954 he took part in founding the homosexual group and [its] magazine, Arcadie, which was launched by André Baudry, and actively supported it (alongside André du Dognon, Jacques de Ricaumont, and Jean Cocteau, who contributed a drawing to the first issue). Roger Peyrefitte also served on the honorary board of GAGE, a homosexual organisation . But he was dismissed from it after certain of his remarks made during a 1990 panel discussion were taken to be anti-semitic; [however,] the writer Renaud Camus supported him and resigned in protest. Yet that long struggle for the "freedom to love" in no way kept him from demonstrating, on various occasions, his Catholic sympathies. At 93 he died "fortified by [the receipt of] the Church's final sacraments."

The acronym GAGE is not linked but various sites identify it as "Association des Etudiants Gais" ( = Gay Students Association) although it actually derives from its original official name, "Groupe achrien des grandes écoles"; later aka Gais des grandes écoles.
