Expand the article[edit]

I realize there isn't much info out there yet in the game, but more headings would help (e.g. Production) to expand it. Sdcrocks (talk) 21:22, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why are all the "refs" pointing wrong i.e. [1] points to 0, [2] points to 1 and so on from 1-16. Surely someone has the knowledge on how to correct this?--St George888 (talk) 16:25, 12 August 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by St George888 (talkcontribs) 16:23, 12 August 2011 (UTC) As this is deemed "low importance" no one should miss it. The title is in legal dispute. The game does not exist in the market place. To quote one frequent editor "A synopsis and a logo do not a film make!" substitute game for film QED!--St George888 (talk) 16:17, 20 August 2011 (UTC) {{db-copyvio}} http://www.rocksmith-music.com Tagged as no one seems able to comprehend "copyright/trademark" infringement, read previous comment! Copyright violations and trademarks are two different things. I already told the trademark holder for Rocksmith via email that we're not deleting this article just because they have the trademark. Articles on the game using the mark qualify as fair use. This article is not a copy and paste from anyone's site so it's not a copyright infringement. Don't add a false tag back to this article again. – Adrignola talk 13:53, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Editor St George888 is involved in with the band "Rocksmith" somehow (as per admission on my talk page) and has continually tried to subvert this page (including blanking the page). I have placed a(nother) warning on the user's talkpage. --Rob Sinden (talk) 15:39, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Such heroes! Thanks for the timely(?) warning! And after the edit from AA I'm beginning to realise why WP is viewed with such disdain by people in the real world. All supporting a product that doesn't even exist how sad! Echoes of "1984" are much too strong for me I'm afraid I'll leave you guys to it...in your world.--St George888 (talk) 15:57, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Eh? You tried to get the page deleted, and you're complaining of "echoes of 1984"? You realize that in that analogy, we're Winston Smith and you're O'Brien / Ministry of Truth, right?125.54.141.237 (talk) 10:49, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bass DLC gear[edit]

I see that the Bass DLC adds three pedals (the "Bass Fuzz" distortion pedal, the "MBComp" dynamics pedal, and the "Bass Wah" filter pedal), six amps ("Boutique 500", "Boutique 800", "NPN500", "Pre-Stortion", "TB300", and "TB66") and six cabinets ("1x15 Modern", "1x15 Vintage", "2x10 HF", "4x10 HF", "8x10 Vintage" and "Hi-Fi DI"). I am not sure if we want to add these separately to the "DLC Amps and Gear" table. Chiok (talk) 01:02, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bass DLC has been out for almost 2 weeks now[edit]

It'd be nice to see some info about the details of the Bass DLC since it was released almost 2 weeks ago now.

From what I've seen of it around the place it looks like it will let you play bass even with a normal guitar. It has a Bass Emulation feature which shifts the notes you play on your regular guitar down by one octave so that it sounds like a bass. That's a pretty neat feature for people who don't have the money for or just don't want to buy a bass guitar but still want to play that part of the game.

Also there seem to be a few new Technique Challenges added specifically for bass guitar. Things like two finger strumming and slap & pop, whatever that is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.136.114.14 (talk) 23:59, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merge with Guitar Rising[edit]

Well, since my proposal to delete the article for Guitar Rising failed, I'd like to help in merging these two articles per Masem's suggestion. As it stands, Guitar Rising has little to no value, but we could say something to the effect of, "Rocksmith has its origins in an abandoned project known as Guitar Rising; problems with note recognition halted development, and it eventually migrated to UbiSoft, was renamed as Rocksmith, and continued development." The note-recognition issues I think were mentioned but not sourced on Guitar Rising's page at some point in the past, but I imagine we could find a Rocksmith interview to lock it down.

Meanwhile, this article could do with a development history section, which I'm assuming is where all the Guitar Rising material will go. Here's an interview I found on IGN, it's heavily dated but it might be of some use: http://www.ign.com/articles/2008/03/27/guitar-rising-interview

I also recall seeing a developer interview (on YouTube, I believe) where they admitted at least to the fact that the HUD in Guitar Rising was not very conducive to being read properly, hence the completely different design in Rocksmith. If you want a look at the HUD in Guitar Rising, here is a video of it.

That's all I got for now. Ta-ta. LazyBastardGuy 05:49, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just an addendum - and something we can easily accomplish: One thing we must make sure we do is concretely-link Guitar Rising and Rocksmith, i.e. we have to explain that they are one and the same. We cannot just say, "There was once a game named Guitar Rising in development..." and then jump into this game's development history without saying at which point Guitar Rising became Rocksmith, or that it had even done so. LazyBastardGuy 07:16, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I did find an article yesterday that confirmed that Ubisoft bought what the software/hardware was for GR, and had to think about how it could become a game, so the linkage is certainly there. --MASEM (t) 07:30, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Good to hear. I'll see if I can find that interview where they revamped the HUD for convienience's sake. LazyBastardGuy 12:07, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
[2] is the article I found that emphasizes the connection of the games. --MASEM (t) 15:24, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, HAHA! That's funny - I found that exact same article. It says everything I'd tried to find again on YouTube when I said above that they'd revamped the HUD to make it more accessible. I went looking for it on Google, not having any luck on YouTube, and stumbled across your article - previously I didn't take the chance to check your link out, but there it is! Haha. Takes care of both of our points there. LazyBastardGuy 00:30, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that's about all the merging I see we can do at this point. Any suggestions on where to go from here? LazyBastardGuy 10:16, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Development & gameplay sections[edit]

I think we need a dedicated "gameplay" section, and we can put the "required hardware" stuff in it. I've started the "development" article using Masem's link. LazyBastardGuy 00:32, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DLC page to Featured List status[edit]

I think we can do it. My first suggestions would be to move the game's on-disc tracklisting to that page (as we have done with Guitar Hero soundtrack articles), and then to move the DLC Amps & Gear list to that page as well.

Then under the main soundtrack section we could put something to the effect of, "Rocksmith has 50 songs available in the game, with 6 unlockable songs from the developers." Expand that, perhaps, but just use it to direct readers to the other page.

Then take the intro to the DLC page, paste it to some extent under the DLC part of this page, and go from there. Any other suggestions? LazyBastardGuy 18:11, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rocksmith 2014 Edition May Be a Sequel[edit]

If this is anything to go by. The page describes it as "all-new", and says the following about it:

  • 50 all-new songs
  • New modes of gameplay
  • Backwards-compatible with "existing library of songs" (why they had to point this out in addition to saying the game was already compatible with existing DLC, I don't know, but on a side note I am excited).

Before you decide my post is irrelevant, I'll tie it into the topic of discussion with this - this is clearly more than just a rebundling. This seems to be an all-new game. We may need to make a new page for it.

And yes, that is a primary source. We'll wait for a third-party one, but I just wanted to give you guys the heads-up in case this is what I think it is... LazyBastardGuy 20:51, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's clearly been touted as a sequel from what I can tell. It's a new release, at "new game" pricing, and does not include the original game's catalog unless you import. -- ferret (talk) 21:07, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The way we have it on the page now, though, implies that the new game is just an updated version of this one. Any thoughts on how to fix it? I think it's too early to make a new page, but we will need one in time... LazyBastardGuy 21:10, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I took material on the page and wrote this - we could make this a section on the current page without making a new one just yet:

Rocksmith 2014 Edition is an upcoming sequel to the rhythm video game Rocksmith. The game will have a Session Mode, which enables players to perform in jam sessions with the in-game musicians. Other new modes include the Riff Repeater, which allows players to select specific parts of songs to practice, a Master Mode to enhance memory-playing, and new Guitarcade minigames.[1] "Cherub Rock" by the Smashing Pumpkins will be a free DLC giveaway with preorders of the game.

LazyBastardGuy 21:12, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say that's fine. It can be split when a few more RS's take it up. -- ferret (talk) 21:23, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome. I'll put it into the article. LazyBastardGuy 21:29, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, by the way, you said "...and does not include the original game's catalog unless you import." Does this mean the original tracklist is exportable to the sequel? If it is, do you know of a source that confirms this? LazyBastardGuy 21:33, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have an immediate source but I'm sure we can find one. Rocksmith has certainly been bragging it up on Facebook about it. If you own the original game, you can import your songs into the new 2014 game. The primary source at http://rocksmith.ubi.com/rocksmith/en-US/features/ mentions backwards compatibility with songs from the original game under "hit tracks" "what's new". -- ferret (talk) 01:35, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can you edit some of these descriptions to make it relevant to a sequel ie Session Mode isn't just "in game musicians" it's AI Controlled Backing Tracks, and Master Mode and Riff Repeater aren't new things, they have been improved for RS2014 - toymachine — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.118.213.190 (talkcontribs) 14:23, 25 July 2013‎ (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but that's what the source says. If you know of a source that clarifies things (I've already removed the bit about the Riff Repeater), then by all means feel free to add it. LazyBastardGuy 19:35, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

At work, haven't had time to fully read it, but huge new source of data from IGN: http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08/16/rocking-out-with-rocksmith-2014?abthid=520e4d05aa481a9065000009 -- ferret (talk) 16:53, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I think we have enough data that we should probably start considering an article split and beginning Rocksmith 2014 -- ferret (talk) 16:54, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm working on a split right now. -- ferret (talk) 19:58, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Trooper & such[edit]

Before I breach 3RR, I know whatever anonymous IPs are adding this information probably won't see this anyway but if you're going to reinsert info regarding the soundtrack, make sure either a) it's on the official website, or b) it's in an independent source that you explicitly cite & reference in the article. I will keep removing whatever unsourced additions are made. LazyBastardGuy 21:41, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Here have some sources http://www.theriffrepeater.com/rocksmith-2014-setlist/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.118.213.190 (talkcontribs)

That fan site ultimately points back to the image teaser, which is not confirmation for inclusion. --MASEM (t) 17:23, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, the articles on each (source) links to images of the Developers confirming each song. Those songs are confirmed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.237.79.8 (talk) 21:14, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, as I feel the need to reiterate we are using the official website as a source, a point I was trying to make by inserting the citation for it into the soundtrack section header. That page has those songs now, but we can use those sources if/when it becomes necessary. LazyBastardGuy 04:37, 13 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, just because it's on their Facebook does not mean you do not have to cite it or even mention that's where it came from. Not everyone is aware of what's on the Facebook page, and we can't expect them to be. LazyBastardGuy 19:51, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
