Merge from octave key[edit]

Since an octave key is a form of register key that causes a register of an octave. It would seem sensible to merge these two articles. Caerwine Caer’s whines 05:28, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. All octave keys are also register keys (if it shifts the pitch up a rack for a given fingering), but not all register keys are octave keys. Any article on "octave keys" deserves its own section here in "register keys." Dfruzzetti (talk) 05:16, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Automatic octave keys on the oboe[edit]

"Oboes are now available with automatic octaves. This involves extra keywork that frees the player from having to bother with an octave key at all."
This phrasing seems to suggest that you don't need to bother with any octave keys at all, whereas even on full automatic oboes, of course you still have to use the octave key for the second octave (E5 to C6), and have to know where to use the third one, if available. The only advantage the full automatic systen has is that it switches automatically between first and second key. You still have to use Nos. 1 and 3...
Maybe the thumbplate system should be mentioned as well? -- megA (talk) 15:51, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

notabilty[edit]

The topic "register key" is not independently notable. Y'all have to be joking with this. NewkirkPlaza (talk) 20:06, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
