Why isn't there any discussions about rakes? I wonder. —Preceding undated comment was added at 07:02, 9 October 2006.

Reason.[edit]

I believe it is because people fear the overwhelming power of the rake. —Preceding undated comment was added at 15:44, 9 November 2006.

is a broom a rake?[edit]

The article currently begins by stating "a rake is a broom for outside use."

I can see how a rake and broom are similar', but that doesn't mean that a rake is a kind of broom. I have also frequently encountered brooms that were used outside that were not rakes. I checked a couple online dictionaries just to be sure and they did not mention brooms in their entries on the word "rake". I don't have a source here or anything, but I really just don't think most people think of a rake as a type of broom. 24.39.54.227 (talk) 21:26, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I just checked the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica reference which is cited as the source for the article's introductory paragraph. The text of the 1911 article is, for the most part, identical to the Wikipedia entry's introductory paragraph (which makes sense, it's a public domain text and I don't think rakes have changed much since 1911) but, notably, it does not contain any references to a rake being a "broom for outside use." 24.39.54.227 (talk) 21:32, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
