Radek > Radosław[edit]

I'm not 100% sure about this rename. He obviously chose to use the "Radek" form of the name. --Lysytalk 05:38, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder if the attention given to the "passport trap" is disproportionately long, and perhaps even one-sided. There should be some more mention of his more recent time in office, and perhaps the stuff he did at AEI. I won't add it myself because I am friend of his and it might be biassed, but perhaps someone more neutral could do it Edwardlucas 15:08, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

wrong sourcing -- leaving with non-Polish passport for dual-citizenship travellers[edit]

The 4th reference "Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada: Travel Report", Poland, accessed on Feb. 5, 2007), ostensibly info for Canadians travelling to Poland, is used to source the statement about trouble leaving Poland on a non-Polish passport for dual-citizenship (Polish and another) travellers: This policy became known as the "passport trap" because it was mainly implemented as harassment of departing travellers (primarily citizens of the United States, Canada, and Australia) who were prevented from leaving Poland until they obtain a Polish passport.[4]. Yet, the only passage in the references implies this is no longer the case: "Dual nationality is not officially recognized, which may limit the ability of Canadian officials to provide consular services. Dual citizens can choose to enter Poland with a Polish or a Canadian passport. Entering on a Polish passport gives all the prerogatives of Polish citizenship. However, proof of Canadian citizenship should be carried in the form of a valid Canadian passport, demonstrating the right to re-enter Canada. If dual citizens choose to enter Poland with a Canadian passport, they will have to comply with regulations applied to foreigners". What's the current situation? Has it changed recently? --Mareklug talk 03:13, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Polish government seems to tolerate dual citizenship (what is not this same as accepting). They expect you to use Polish passport when entering or leaving Poland. (I hope they don't harass children born outside Poland (born to Polish citizens) as they were use to do years ago even in so called "free" Poland). 75.34.155.219 (talk) 03:56, 21 March 2010 (UTC) [1][reply]

The entire paragraph about Poles of dual citizenship being required to enter or leave Poland on their Polish passports should be removed. It does not belong to an article about Sikorski. First of all, the whole passage is very long by comparison with other passages that actually are relevant to the subject matter. Secondly, it sounds like a personal diatribe by a Polish Canadian who was required to obtain a Polish passport while traveling to Poland – Wikipedia is not a place for letting off steam. Thirdly, and most importantly, such requirements are typical throughout the world. Polish Canadians are required to enter Canada on their Canadian passports, British Israelis are required enter Israel on their Israeli passports, and so on. There is nothing controversial or discriminatory here. You do not automatically abandon your original citizenship by acquiring a new one, so in the eyes of the country you originally came from you are still its citizen. It follows that children of Polish parents (even if the parents are dual nationals) are also considered Polish under the Polish Law. Calling it 'harassment' is a stretch. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.146.238.235 (talk) 15:24, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Any relation?[edit]

Is there any relation to Wladyslaw Sikorski? john k (talk) 03:02, 26 May 2009 (UTC) Only one: Grand Orient —Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.182.5.132 (talk) 14:07, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Presidential election[edit]

He is one of the two candidates (second one is Bronisław Komorowski) in primary election in the Polish biggest political party Platforma Obywatelska. If he wins primary election there is a big chance that he will be president of Poland. See Polish presidential election, 2010. Amongdrew1 (talk) 09:25, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately he lost, receiving 31,5%. Komorowski received 68,5%. Amongdrew1 (talk) 11:54, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong information about his World Press Photo award?[edit]

In the article it states He won the World Press Photo award in 1987 for a photograph of a family killed in a Soviet air raid in Afghanistan. This info is provided with this link as a reference. Once we open the link and click on the "photo information", we can see Suffocated in the cellar of their home during a bombing by the Soviet trained Afghan Air Force, the bodies of a woman and her two children are huddled together. They were victims of the guerilla war which continued in Afghanistan. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the photo description has no mention of the "Soviet air raid". Was this misleading information put in the wiki-article intentionally? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.131.102.19 (talk) 22:46, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lobbying for Polanski[edit]

I think a balanced and well-researched section on his lobbying on behalf of Roman Polanski would not go amiss. Clearly one would not wish to impute any motive other than friendship, but it is a high-profile issue. 212.121.210.45 (talk) 18:29, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

unreliable data. questionable and suspicious activity by Volunteer Marek[edit]

this is encyclopedia, not the platform to present opinion. Who is to judge if relations have improved or not. Mr. Smith said that under Sikorski, relations has been diminish gradually. Let say, Smith view Sikorski politics as not mature, chaotic (for example Sikorski were acting as a child in the fog in respect to North Stream infractructure). We should put this to Sikorski bio ? Why DO you feel that your opinion and Sikorski's opinion about Polish-Russian-German "improved" relations are superior to Mr. Smith opinion ?! Please respect that this is encyclopedia, without personal judgment, only dry facts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.134.125.164 (talk) 00:53, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Who is to judge if relations have improved or not. Sources. If a reliable source says that they have then that's what we put in. Now quit removing well sourced text and replacing it with your BLP-violating attacks.Volunteer Marek (talk) 22:00, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

recent edits and BLP violations[edit]

These edits [1] constitute removal of well sourced material.

These edits [2] are blatant violation of WP:BLP, both because of the way the text is worded ("Sikorski is well known from his numerous lapsuses and mismanagment of taxpayers money"), as well due to the fact that the sources are not-reliable, or at least definitely not BLP standard. These are internet portals and the like.

It appears that the IP behind these edits has some agenda with regard to Mr. Sikorski. And on top of that they seem to be convinced that anyone who disagrees with them is "an employee of Sikorski". This very much suggests a WP:NOTHERE problem.Volunteer Marek (talk) 21:58, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In June 1981 he travelled to the United Kingdom to study English[edit]

Perhaps something more about this? I thought Poland was extremely poor and totalitarian controlled country, yet a striking student suddenly finds enough money to travel to UK to study on prestigious university and totalitarian regime just lets him go? That part seems strange.--MyMoloboaccount (talk) 11:18, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Especially in 1981 ("Solidarity" movement) it was somewhat easier to travel abroad from Poland. As the saying went, "Poland was the merriest barrack in the Soviet prison system". You could be harassed (e.g. refused to be issued passport by the authorities) in that period, but I would say the chances (of being permitted to travel) were in solid 30-50%. Usually it implicitly meant leaving some hostage (close relative like a parent or a child/spouse) in Poland (to assure you come back), but not always. Money-wise - salaries in Poland back then were about 10$/mo, but we Poles were rather ingenious in travelling abroad burdened with loads of stuff (really straining the goodwill of customs officials), which we would sell on the streets of places we were going to. High quality handcrafted items, precision Soviet optical instruments (yes, they were making very decent photo lenses or binoculars), amber and the like. Many Poles actually were making loads of money traveling back and forth as "tourists". Also UK was offering vacation language training programs (I went for one in Summer 1980) which you could enroll officially from Poland with official state youth organisations acting as middlemen. The price we paid for this (in Polish money to Polish authorities) was exorbitant, but was considered (by families) as one of best possible investments. To stay in the UK and be able to enroll in a college would require (money and formalities) much effort after getting to the UK (this was course illegal and "treasonous" in the opinion of Polish commie authorities). But this was time of much international sympathy for Poles, much help, there was a significant Polish community in the UK, so many people tried and some succeeded, by hook or by crook. Szafranpl (talk) 21:39, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Scholarly analysis of practical aspects of foreign travels by Poles throughout communist rule is in e.g. [1]. An interesting fact is that it estimates that the commerce conducted by Poles during (officially) tourist/academic travels peaked at 40% (!!) of official foreign trade exchange of Poland (in 1985). And we do not talk drugs or other stereotypical smuggling items, we talk merchandise which was passing customs inspections as "personal use" (strangely though in unopened packaging :-)). Coal ban tape[edit]

It seems like there's a number of attempts here and otherwise to add some content regarding an alleged tape about a coal ban. Sikorski is a WP:BLP which requires "the greatest care and attention to verifiability, neutrality, and avoidance of original research." The content only cites a youtube video (a WP:PRIMARY source) that we don't know who it came from. There's also various links such as this page which I have no idea what it is (and it looks like a WP:BLOG not a reliable source. It's basically copying and pasting and linking to Dances with Bears which is clearly a blog and not a reliable source. Are there actual real news media sources about this? -- Ricky81682 (talk) 21:48, 12 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah and if this is a copyvio that it's double the reason to remove it. Volunteer Marek  03:45, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
