Image issues[edit]

  1. If we're going to use a non-free image, we should use one that is high quality, rather than a comparatively crappy youtube screenshot. Low resolution != crappy quality.
  2. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the youtube account WhiteAngloSaxonPerv is potentially not officially connected with the BBC, meaning that the link is a COPYVIO, and we should not link to it at all, even for the source of a non-free image.
  3. I'm not entirely sure that this meets NFCC. I'd defer to someone like maybe User:Masem, to see what they're opinion is. GMGtalk 12:52, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fails NFCC. She was a public personality, so there needs to be a reasonable attempt to find a free image of her; in such cases of recent deaths, we generally do not allow non-free to be used for about 6 months to give time for a free replacement to be found and used first. --Masem (t) 12:56, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's pretty much what I thought. Figured I'd get seconded given an article that's currently on the main page. GMGtalk 12:59, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As a total and utter wild stab in the dark, is this something Jimbo Wales could deal with? I seem to remember asking him about Jo Cox in a similar manner. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:17, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
He can't really override local policy wrt NFCC. If he happens to know someone at the BBC who can slip us a freely licensed image via OTRS (they have no shortage of them to choose from) then that would be super duper, and we can try to expedite that process because main page. Given Jimbo's reputation to be able to "hob nob" with the rich, famous and influential, it was the latter I was thinking of. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:42, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose we could always email the BBC permission team at news.website.permission.requests@bbc.co.uk. No guess as to what the turnaround or odds of success on that might be though. GMGtalk 13:50, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
