Platforms 1 and 2[edit]

Platforms 1 and 2 are certainly used on Saturdays, when a non-stop service exists between Purley and Brighton. I don't know if they are used at any other time - I assume not. Mtford 12:18, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Somebody reverted my sentence about Saturdays. Please discuss the matter on this page if you disagree with a recent edit. I know for a fact that Purley has a scheduled half-hourly service running nonstop to Brighton on Saturdays (it's in the European timetable here, which doesn't take account of engineering works), and I also know that it stopped on platform 2 when I used the service two weeks ago. Other trains were stopping at platforms 3/4 as usual, and there were no major engineering works in the area, so I assume that platforms 1/2 are in regular use for this service. In fact, looking at the live departure board, I see there is a train scheduled to call at platform 1 in 25 minutes from now, at 0322 on a Friday morning (though this might not be accurate). I have no information on trains using platforms 1 and 2 only on Saturdays. I agree that the platforms are occasionally used during engineering work but such work also takes place on Sundays as well. I am very, very, very surprised that a train was calling there at 0322 because normally there are no trains timetabled to stop there overnight from around midnight to 0500 . I cannot find any reference to a regular non-stop service from Purley to Brighton. Come to think of it there never has been !! I have to agree with Mtford. I travel between London Bridge and Purley on a daily basis. If I leave work late - and take the fast train that leaves London Bridge just before 20:00 it is scheduled to stop at platform 2. It does so every day regardless of engineering works - so therefore the current wiki-page that claims Platform 2 is not used during the week is just plain innacurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.169.165.171 (talk) 19:16, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Usage stats[edit]

station, but also those at neighbouring stations. The gates help to ensure that
customers purchase tickets, but customers may also alter their travel patterns to
avoid gated stations. We would expect travel patterns to be most affected in the
months following the installation of the gates.
