Abe Lincoln also gave a speech from the balcony of the American Hotel downtown Princeton on the square. Today this historic site is marked by a clothing store.

There were also a battery powered trolly system at least as far back as the 1860's

Princeton History[edit]

Settlers arrived in Princeton in large numbers in 1831. The city was surveyed and roads were layed out close to where they are today, only the names have changed.

The Hampshire Colony Congregational Church which still stands employed as one of the early pastors, the well-known abolitionist, Owen Lovejoy. Whose house still stands on the east edge of town, tours are given with a history lesson you dont get in school. Reverend Lovejoy used his own home to hide runaway slaves. Prior to and during the Civil War, Princeton was an important station on the Underground Railroad.
