Polytonic Greek[edit]

Now that polytonic Greek is available, it seems right to use it when ancient Greek is quoted literally. I've made a start with Τίς ἀγορεύειν βούλεται, and may do more if other contributors do not object. John Wheater (talk) 19:02, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Poor Article[edit]

This article is amazingly poor, both in references, content and general overview. It is also, as already noted, not at all in an ecyclopedia-worthy form but resembles more some sort of tourist guide. I suggest that some extensive work should be done on it (I shall certainly do my own best to improve it but will not be able to spend any time on wikipedia for the coming week so please be patient).--VoiceOfThePnyx (talk) 15:38, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Socrates imprisonment[edit]

This image seems to suggest Socrates was imprisoned in Pnyx. Sounds like something that could be included in the article. Palosirkka (talk) 13:44, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That photo is not from the Pnyx, but from the foot of the nearby hill of Philopappos, i.e., the ancient hill of the Muses. Moreover, although the place is often referred to as "the prison of Socrates", the term is a misnomer, as Socrates was not imprisoned there, but in a prison in the Agora. If I remember correctly, the place in the photo was merely the back of a house in antiquity. The holes where the beams for the roof had been attached can still be seen clearly.
