Pier and Dante[edit]

Dante's portrait of Pier della Vigne has importance beyond the rhetoric. This is one of the cases when Dante put a character in Hell but treated him sympathetically. Dante, like Pier, had been disgraced by accusations which he claimed to be false, so Dante had strong reason to empathize with the earlier man. CharlesTheBold (talk) 14:58, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
