Hairspray?[edit]

It says in this article that Patti is portraying Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray on Broadway. Where is the source for this? As far as I know, it's Darlene Love that's portraying Motormouth, not Patti... 24.187.48.54 20:14, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Slight edit[edit]

I'm slightly changing the line about Labelle deciding to disband, because that makes it sound like it was a mutual decision. In reality Nona Hendryx had a nervous breakdown and had to be hospitalized (she wandered off a stage one night, locked herself in a dressing room and began to beat her head into a stone wall), which pretty much ended the group then and there. New Formerly Unreleased Bluebelles Single: "Count the Days"[edit]

Can whoever did such an excellent job on the chart of singles please add the latest single (which previously never released) to the chart? You can put it in as (previously unreleased). Sorry I haven't been able to come up with a recording date for it. The song is:

"(1-2-3-4-5-6-7) Count the Days" and it's excellent.

It's been released on a new compilation CD "Atlantic Unearthed: Soul Sisters." Here is a link which talks about it: http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002385772

It is available on Itunes as well.

Thanks, Mike B.

Television section is a mess[edit]

Much of section titled Television work is lazily cut and pasted from IMDb, and done badly at that. The whole thing should be removed or redone, it's out of place with the rest of the article. 172.164.107.251 03:32, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rather, not a mess, but in need of some maintenance.
I also missed the fact that she appeared on an episode of The Nanny playing the part of a mother competing with Fran Drescher and Madeleine Zima to win a mother-daughter-contest. I think it should be included. OfficeBoy (talk) 20:52, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mislabeled image[edit]

Sorry if this isn't done correctly but I just wanted to let someone know that the picture of Patti is not titled properly underneath, it says "Paula Abdul" but it's a picture of Patti. I didn't want to try and fix it myself and mess something up. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 128.231.88.4 (talk) 14:51, 5 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Concert Section[edit]

Yes, I just added that whole section, and I did not do a good job with it, but I wanted to get it up there, because TO ME, that is what she is most famous for. Someone should do one on hair and drag, but anyway, edit away, but leave the section. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.33.144.238 (talk) 02:08, 7 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I just removed that section as unsourced original research material. Please stick to verifiable material from reliable sources. Thanks, --Tom 13:34, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

that was rude, Tom. I could write sources for it. I asked for it to be improved, not deleted. are u the wikipedia police?
Yes I am. Be glad I didn't send you to Wiki jail, horrible place. JUST KIDDING! No, I am just one itsie bitise little editor. I am big into removing unsourced/original research material. Lucky for me, 95% of Wikipedia falls into this category so I have lots to do :). All kidding aside, please try to add sources for any material you add to the project, it really improve the quality of the articles. Thanks and good luck.--Tom 20:24, 7 March 2007 (UTC) ps please sign your posts with 4 tildes (~) so we know who wrote what, cheers![reply]
Why are you big into removing material? have you been to a Patti concert? I didn't think so. My info was accurate, and if you had allowed it to stay up for 24hrs, it would have been sourced, but you deleted the whole thing. You have any idea how many pages have unsourced material? Thousands!!!! Why would you pick on Miss Patti???? There are so many things on her page alone that are unsourced...
We hate Patti. No seriously, all material added must be attributable to a reliable source. This warning is there every time you add to a wikipedia article. If you can't source it, it gots to go. Kyaa the Catlord 10:06, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
well, guess what? i can show you Zillions of articles without sources listed... And what internet source is reliable anyway?

"Empress of Soul"[edit]

Please don't put this title in the infobox or lead paragraph. If it can be sourced, include it elsewhere in the article. It's a pretty pointless thing to edit-war about. Thanks. ELIMINATORJR 10:59, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

LAURA NYRO............... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.218.9.214 (talk) 20:57, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How about a mention of the fact that Labelle also sang with Laura Nyro??? In particular on Nyro's 'Gonna Take A Miracle' album.

Roots[edit]

From where did her parents have their roots (like most African Americans, before the Great Migration, I would assume one or more places in the American South)? Badagnani (talk) 04:46, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:PattiLPdebut.jpg[edit]

Image:PattiLPdebut.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The Queen Of Rock And Soul?????[edit]

'She is also known as Queen Of Rock & Soul' ??? I removed this sentence before starting a discussion here, because that is absolutely not true. This woman has one of the best voices of all-time, but the one who received the title of QUEEN OF SOUL is Aretha Franklin, and the only QUEEN OF ROCK i know (and admire) is the irreplaceable Tina Turner. Iggy Ax (talk) 18:05, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Correction, Patti has been call the queen of Rock and Soul, hers was a combination as Arethas was the queen of soul and Tina's was the queen of Rock. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.230.203.254 (talk) 10:20, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bodyguard incident[edit]

Looks like some guy from Houston (173.45.200.129) is giving a rather biased story about the incident. Too many quotes and claims of media perhaps? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.172.225.27 (talkcontribs) 4 June 2011

Wow, "rather biased story" well, my writeup was definitely NPOV with direct quotations from witnesses reported in the story. Then there were edits from someone who lamely attempted to justify/defend the actions of LaBelle's entourage and wasn't even using NPOV. By the way, you are right that I am from Houston :) The problem is that the presentation here just doesn't include any relevant claims by witnesses or reporters or any description of the video -- which is the only objective evidence so far. Early on in the lawsuit, there are only claims and counterclaims by interested parties. The quote by the only noninterested party ( the security guard who said that the attack was unprovoked) was edited out-- which is unfortunate. I'm sure that more details will come out in the trial or after the settlement.

I probably concede that the "lends undue weight to certain ideas, incidents, controversies or matters relative to the article subject as a whole" is a fair criticism. But claiming my edits are "biased" just is flat wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.45.200.129 (talk) 03:30, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV issues[edit]

There are NPOV issues with this article from top to bottom. The main portion is inappropriately gushy fan-speak while the incident at the airport is covered excessively for someone who wasnt actually involved. Active Banana (bananaphone 01:57, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I mostly agree. I'm fine with the "bodyguard incident" section as it stands now (thanks for cleaning that up, Active Banana!). I'm changing the section name, since "controversies" is pretty generic, and there's only one controversy anyway. Also, is a list of talk show appearances really necessary? Gay icon[edit]

How is there nothing in the entire article about her status as a gay icon?!122.60.66.191 (talk) 07:36, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I think it's fair to include something on this - there are plenty of possible references, but not all in reliable sources. I've added a couple of sentences, including a quote from her, into the "Pop culture" section - which is not necessarily the best place for it, but without starting a new section it's hard to see where else would be better.
