Park Towne Place Apartment Homes → Park Towne Place – "Park Towne Place" is the name most commonly (if, indeed, not universally) used for this apartment complex. It is under this name that the complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places (as you can see by following the link in the article). "Park Towne Place Apartment Homes" is the apartment-leasing business currently operated out of it; that business has no historic significance and is not worthy of a Wikipedia article. (I don't mean to disparage it, just to say that we don't create an article for every apartment complex.) Currently "Park Towne Place" is a redirect to "Park Towne Place Apartment Homes", the article title. It should be the other way around. (If indeed we need the longer title at all.) Relisted. The main entrance to Park Towne Place from 22nd Street, photographed in August 2014. This picture shows the sign at the main entrance of Park Towne Place. In the context of this discussion, it seems worth noting that "Park Towne Place" is the name that even Aimco uses.

Looking at the article history, I see that the article was named Park Towne Place, and was moved in June by NicJamison. Nic mentions on his user page that he works for Aimco, which owns the complex and operates Park Towne Place Apartment Homes.

It seems clear that the intentions behind this move were good, and that it was done with the object of making the name more accurate. But I think that Nic's connection to Aimco has led him into an error, despite his good intentions. Although Aimco sees the complex and the business as identical, they are distinct in a subtle but important way. The apartment complex has a history that long predates Aimco's ownership and operation, and it is that history, not its current state, that makes Park Towne Place worthy of a Wikipedia article.

The difference between "Park Towne Place" and "Park Towne Place Apartment Homes" is a small but clear. One describes a historic apartment complex, and the other describes a current apartment-rental business. Which of these should have an article? TypoBoy (talk) 19:29, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
