GA Reassessment[edit]

This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Pan's Labyrinth/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

Has a copyvio tag, and a too-detailed plot summary. Also could do with a little better referencing. Furthermore, hasn't been reassessed in four years Purplebackpack89≈≈≈≈ 03:53, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Closing as delisted: Three weeks and no effort to improve the article, or even any comments. If you want this to be GA, re-nominate it, but I believe much needs to be fixed before it is up to today's GA standards Purplebackpack89≈≈≈≈ 04:15, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Poster[edit]

It seems to be Wiki policy for foreign films to include the poster from a film's country of origin so I replaced the current lead image with the Spanish poster. There's another theatrical poster at the source here.--CyberGhostface (talk) 01:43, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Pale Man[edit]

"The Pale Man probably refers to the Lamia in ancient Greek mythology" - I've found a page that states that the Pale Man can refer to a Japanese legend.

http://www.scaryforkids.com/pale-man/

The article says that the Pale Man was inspired by a bout of weight loss on del Toro's part. However, the Time Magazine interview it cites contains no reference to any weight loss inspiration, nor can I find a reference to this weight loss elsewhere. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.136.246.43 (talk) 23:56, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Pale Man “came out of a really dark, primal place,” del Toro said. “I had lost weight, and I saw my belly sagging.” [1]--CyberGhostface (talk) 04:35, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article for Tenome refers to Pan's Labyrinth. I would like to add it here but am afraid it might just get removed unless we source it. I'll list it in the see also. 184.145.18.50 (talk) 05:30, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The above is a reference to the physical characteristics of the Pale Man, while the comment below refers to the thematic significance of the Pale Man.

Del Toro has stated that the Pale Man is a reference to the Catholic Church. Despite the abundant feast laid out before him, the Pale Man chooses to devour children (and fairies), a metaphor for the sexual abuse scandals and coverups in Catholicism. Del Toro has also recounted that the words of the priest to the tortured prisoner were spoken verbatim by a priest during the Spanish Civil War. [1] [2]

First 2 sentences[edit]

Does anyone else find it a little awkward that the word "Mexican" is there three times? Ribbet32 (talk) 00:35, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. I also checked on a couple of other pages for non-US films ( Spirited Away, Night Watch, Dancer in the Dark, Y Tu Mamá También). As this article is about the movie, I think information about the nationality of Guillermo del Toro or Esperanto Films would fit better in their corresponding articles. Salamangkero (talk) 06:23, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mexican film?[edit]

This film was a majority Spanish co-production and is listed as such in the European Audiovisual Observatory (note how Spain is listed first, which indicates that it was the main country of production according to the EAO's criteria). It's even straightforwardly referred to as a "majority Spanish co-production competing for Mexico in the Best Foreign Language Film category" by this article, so at very least defining it a Mexican film in the opening sentence is misleading, or just plain wrong.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 04:52, 11 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

To call it "wrong" is wrong. Saying a movie is Mexican does not preclude that people from other countries have worked on it. Ribbet32 (talk) 00:22, 13 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The production of the film is a 78% spanish and only 22% mexican: http://www.mcu.es/comun/bases/cine/Anuarios/2006/P111905.pdf ( Ministry of Culture) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.55.202.164 (talk) 04:38, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just a hallucination?[edit]

Towards the end of the plot summary is a statement that implies the supernatural parts of the story are just a hallucination. What is the source for giving this viewpoint equal weight? While a possible plot theory, it isn't consistent with other plot details, and is outright contradicted by director's statements. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mirboj (talkcontribs) 02:39, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
