  • ... that television's P.O.W. was said to have come closer to meeting its responsibilities "than anything presented heretofore on the living room screen"? This: "It has always been reasonble to suspect that one day television would meet on its small screen the responsibilities of the living theater. ... We believe in its initial production on Tuesday evening the 'United States Steel Hour' came closer to meeting these demands and oligations than anything presented heretofore on the living room screen."
    • ALT1:... that ...? Source: "You are strongly encouraged to quote the source text supporting each hook" (and [link] the source, or cite it briefly without using citation templates)

  • This article is new enough and long enough. The hook facts are cited inline, the article is neutral and I detected no copyright issues. A QPQ has been done. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:20, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, but I don't understand what's hooky or necessary about quoting the last half of that sentence. Yoninah (talk) 19:11, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Are you referring to the words "on the living room screen"? Cbl62 (talk) 19:13, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm referring to the whole quote in the hook. Most of the words are WP:LIMITED and with a little tweaking you could do without the quote marks. But it still doesn't sound like a hooky fact. Yoninah (talk) 19:21, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In general, I think quotes are helpful in lending veracity to extraordinary claims. I also think people like and are curious about interesting quotes. I thought the quote in this case was an extraordinary and interesting claim about the production, but if you disagree, that's fine. P.O.W. began a whole genre of Korean War/P.O.W. brainwashing films culminating in The Manchurian Candidate (an interesting fact but hard to pin down with sourcing), and I thought it would be nice to see it featured on the Main Page, but I'm fine if it doesn't get featured. I don't quarrel with the right of the hook promoter to reject a hook deemed insufficiently hooky. Cbl62 (talk) 19:53, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Cbl62: My intention is never to make you withdraw the hook. Just submit a different one! Yoninah (talk) 20:02, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Here are some options:
  • alt 1 ... that P.O.W. was based on interviews with repatriated prisoners about communist "brainwashing treatment" during the Korean War?
  • alt 2 ... that the U.S. Steel Hour launched its 10-year run with P.O.W., a drama about communist brainwashing of American prisoners?
  • Thank you, these are better. Pinging original reviewer Cwmhiraeth to take a look at ALT1 and 2. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 15:24, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
