Hi[edit]

Hi, I actually posted a different response earlier, before I got to read the message that was sent to me. As I have stated, I was still working on the page when it was terminated. Also, I am an employee of Hatteras Networks, so maybe that that will help my case in your decision of restoring the Hatteras Networks page, at least until I can put in the appropriate copyright symbols. Thank you for your time, and response. (Ewillingham 21:47, 12 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Hello[edit]

Hello, my name is Melissa Drozdowski. I work for Interprose Public Relations, which represents Hatteras Networks. Upon reviewing the Hatteras Networks' Wikipedia entry, we noticed that the entry, which was created by a former Hatteras employee, is not only out of date, but appears to be more commercial in nature than what is allowed by Wikipedia guidelines.

It is not our intention to edit this page directly ourselves, except as needed to correct product names and relevant information. We would however, like to aid the Wikipedia editing community in cleaning up and expanding this entry, and would be more than happy to provide any factual, non-advertorial information required, such as product names, awards, analyst report information, and markets served. We are also able to provide numerous third-party citations and references as needed, and can suggest outbound links that may be appropriate.

Thanks very much, Mdrozdowski (talk) 15:21, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See my response below. -- œ 04:55, 4 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting edits to the Hatteras Networks Wikipedia entry[edit]

{{Request edit}}

We would like to provide needed factual, non-advertorial information that can be used to update the Hatteras Networks entry so that it includes a product list, recent awards, and information from industry analysts. Appropriate third-party citations will be provided in support of these requested edits.

Thank you for disclosing your conflict of interest. Your help in improving this article is appreciated. Although, as per the WP:COI guideline, you should restrict your editing of this subject to making suggestions on this talk page via the {{request edit}} template that you've used above, if you find that your requests are not being acted upon by any of our volunteers, and provided you abide by the Neutral point of view policy, your edits to the article are welcome so long as your declaration remains on this talk page. Regards, œ 04:52, 4 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OE, thanks much for the information. We'd like to start providing verifiable data, including citations, for updates to this page. Would it be easiest if I placed that info here on the talk page with a Request Edit entry? I'd prefer not to edit the page directly, as we don't want to trigger any COI issues.

Again, thanks for your message; I appreciate it.

Cheers,

Mdrozdowski (talk) 14:13, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You could use the request edit template, however given that this article is not likely to be watched by many users your requests may go unnoticed for a time, which would make it difficult for you to effectively improve the article, and also, given that you already disclosed your COI here on the talk page and are aware of the policy, you have a reasonable amount a freedom to edit the article yourself. To put it simply, go ahead, be bold, improve the article and don't worry too much about it. :) œ 13:15, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OE, thanks much; we're definitely aware of Wikipedia's editing guidelines and will make sure we strictly adhere to them. We'll go ahead and start updating, with third-party citations for verification.

Cheers,

Editing In Progress[edit]

We have begun the editing process for the Hatteras Networks Wikipedia entry. In order to bring the page up to Wikipedia standards, we are rewriting copy in the neutral voice, and are adding references and citations. Additional sections to be added in the current round of editing include Current Products and Awards & Recognitions. A corporate history will also be added once we have all the necessary historical information and any related citations / references.

Mdrozdowski (talk) 14:54, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Current Products section was added on July 26, 2010. This may be edited further for clarity and accuracy.

Mdrozdowski (talk) 15:57, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple small edits made to correct formatting errors; apologies for all of the multiple edits.

Comments[edit]

It seems that you are actively editing this article, so rather than tag I'll write my comments here

  • The external links list is too long per WP:EL. Other than the official cite, none of them seem very relevant.
  • A source for the list of customers should be given.
  • There are external links within the text. Again, WP:EL.

--Muhandes (talk) 20:58, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much for your comments; they're very helpful. I'll go ahead and remove the list of external links and update the text as per the WP:EL guidelines. Apologies for the error; I'm a new Wikipedia editor, as you can probably see. I'll also check to see if we have a single list of the customers anywhere, but I'm betting we don't. All of their customers can be found in the press releases on the Hatteras Networks website, however, how does that affect the article's POV and my COI? I definitely don't want to violate any of Wikipedia's rules on advertising and promotion.

Again, my thanks for your comments - much appreciated!

Mdrozdowski (talk) 21:06, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know of any rule against quoting press releases (use {{cite press release}}), except of course WP:SENSE. Just don't overdo it.--Muhandes (talk) 21:17, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ahhh, thank you. Should each press release be cited separately, given the sheer number of customers listed, or would a citation pointing to their press release page work? I'm happy to do either, as long as we're conforming to the correct format.

Cheers,

Mdrozdowski (talk) 21:21, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Using common sense I trimmed the list of customers to ones which both had a wikipedia article and I could easily find a verifying source (press releases in this case). I prefer not to list customers in bullets, I'm not sure if that is a guideline or personal preference. I also trimmed the list of key people (4 is the maximum number, 2 seemed appropriate in this case). --Muhandes (talk) 06:11, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks much for the assist on the article; I think the changes look good. We'll be adding a corporate history shortly - I'm just waiting on some verifiable information. Any suggestions on how best to establish inbound links so that the article isn't an orphan any longer?

Thanks again!

Mdrozdowski (talk) 13:00, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Check WP:O. I think the two link the article has now are quite relevant so I removed the tag. You should probably add a few more just in case. --Muhandes (talk) 15:35, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting Edit[edit]

With the confirmed merger of Hatteras Network and Overture Networks [1], I proposed that we should move this article to Overture-Hatteras Networks and change the current Hatteras Networks to a redirect or convert it into a snapshot like Alcatel-Lucent USA. ♠♠ BanëJ ♠ ♠ 09:55, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

I already moved it to "Overture Networks". But if "Overture-Hatteras Networks" would be more accurate then feel free to move it there. Perhaps Mdrozdowski can clarify which title is more apt. -- œ 18:23, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OE, you have the name right - it should be "Overture Networks". The two companies merged their business operations, however, they elected to move forward under the Overture Networks name. In the coming weeks, we'll update this page with new information, backed with the necessary citations. As with the Hatteras article, we'll make sure it adheres to Wikipedia's editing guidelines and the NPOV.
Thanks very much for updating this for us and for your help.
Cheers,
Melissa

Editing in Process[edit]

The information for the Hatteras Networks Wikipedia article is now out of date, as the company merged with another company, Overture Networks, in March 2011. I am updating the existing article with new and corrected information.

A COI declaration was made previously, however, I would like to restate that I am acting on behalf of Overture Networks, which is a client of our PR firm. As with my previous work on the Hatteras Networks Wikipedia article, I will be strictly adhering to any and all Wikipedia guidelines, including keeping to the NPOV and providing citations and references as needed and appropriate.

Any interest, input, or feedback from the Wikipedia editing community is warmly welcomed and appreciated.

Edits Completed[edit]

The first round of edits to the Overture Networks page has been completed. I have updated the copy with current information regarding the company's merger with Hatteras Networks, and refreshed the citation links so that everything should work. We have tried to adhere to Wikipedia's NPOV and reference guidelines, however, if we've erred anywhere, insight and input from the Wikipedia community is warmly welcomed.

Additional information and a new Overture logo has been added to this article, reflecting the company's rebranding initiative, announced February 7, 2012. Please see earlier COI statements above and on my talk page. As before, I have tried to adhere to Wikipedia's NPOV and reference guidelines, however, if I've erred anywhere, insight and input from the Wikipedia community is warmly welcomed.
