Do we know if the content on Overhead in New York is real or not? 68.78.77.7 07:06, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Of course it's real, you can't make that sort of shit up! :) Kewpid 13:45, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The idea is that it's real; but yes, you could make it up if you wanted to.
Some of it is real (for instance, everything I sent, and everything my girlfriend sent, and everything a friend of mine sent). Some of it is clearly fake -- it's too pat. It's probably not much more fake that the "Metropolitan Diary" section of The New York Times, which is obviously published in a major national newspaper.–♥ «Charles A. Like 80% of what people write anonymously on the internet, it's mostly bullshit sent in by bored people who want to see their words published. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.2.242.169 (talkcontribs) 12:56 June 21, 2006
As the MSNBC article linked from the main article notes, OINY has a large staff of editors who do their best to weed out fake submissions. Naturally they can't be 100% successful, but it sounds like they actually try quite hard to keep it real. If something sounds scripted or pat, they don't run it, and they also check to make sure there aren't urban legends that correspond with the quote, etc. I've personally sent in about eight submissions that have been posted, and all were real. Spin -Off Sites[edit]

We link to the spin-offs but don't discuss them in any way in the article. Can someone find some info on the introduction of these sites? --Chris Griswold () 15:39, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
