The article was flagged for notability.

I started the article after I looked up Christopher Plummer and noticed that he'd been in On Golden Pond. I clicked on the link and it went to the play. After further investigation I found that he was in a version of the movie with Julie Andrews and there wasn't an article about that movie.

Is the movie notable enough to justify a Wikipedia article? I don't know. Julie Andrews was a major movie star and Christopher Plummer was certainly a noted actor. The biggest film for each of them was probably Sound of Music which they starred in together and it was interesting to me that they would be in another movie together near the end of their careers. The original play and movie are well known. So it seems that there are certainly factors about the movie of some general interest.

Perhaps somebody more versed in the issue of Wikipedia notability would come by and make a comment. Does anybody know what percentage of made for TV movies have Wikipedia articles about them? What is the percentage of Julie Andrews movies that have Wikipedia articles about them?--Davefoc (talk) 00:36, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just looked at the Julie Andrews article and the link to the 2001 film was also directed at the play. I changed it. So now is the article more notable because the articles about two well known actors link to it? --Davefoc (talk) 00:43, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how this plays in to the issue but there are 7 pages that link to this article. One thing I just noticed, is that the movie seems to have been the live filming of a play. I'm not sure how that plays in to the issue either. --Davefoc (talk) 03:33, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The film seems to be obviously notable by Wikipedia standards and I will remove the notability banner. Some points: 1. There are Wikipedia articles about all the actors, the writer and the producer. 2. The play was reviewed by a major media publication (Variety) and written about by the LA Times and the NY Times. 3. The reunion of Andrews and Plummer created interest. 4. The movie was produced by a major American TV Studio. --Davefoc (talk) 21:15, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The production appears notable enough for an article considering the unquestioned notability of the articles on Andrews' two other "Made for TV" filmed stage productions, Victor/Victoria and Cinderella. Beyond that, I feel it adequately meets Wikipedia's guidelines for notability which include having reliable sources that provide significant coverage of the topic.

The only one that it may not meet is the presumption guideline. While this production is notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia, do we presume that it deserves a stand-alone article? I think this subject may be better suited for inclusion in the Adaptations section of the article on the original play. Perhaps if the editors added more information, this production would more definitively warrant its own article. --DarshaAssant (talk) 21:16, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
