I think Category I Historic Places are notable by definition, but the Ophir page is so short (and likely to remain so) that a redirect might be justified. --Helenalex (talk) 05:53, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As the creator of the P.O. page, I'll add my two cents worth...

(1) Notability. The established standard seems to be every tiny hamlet in NZ has its own page. Likewise, there's an explicit category "Category I Historic Places" - so long as this category exists, the goal should be completeness (ie. pages for every such place). If someone wants to challenge notability, then it should be with respect to standards and categories, rather than individual pages.

(2) Shortness. I know, the page needs expansion. I'm reluctant to just copy material from the HPT, even though that's been done on other pages. OTOH, I don't see anything wrong with short pages; if a topic can be described in 1-2 paragraphs, so be it (Compact writing is good writing). Personally, I wish someone would take an axe and cut the crap from some wiki-pages. (This page is much better. And that's from a mainlander.) --Zaqrfv (talk) 22:26, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NEW TOPIC[edit]

Clare Memorial Gold Cup .. Omakau Racecourse.. Vincent Jockey Club Annual GALLOPS.. Contestants vie for the ownership of the Clare Memorial Gold Cup (it's two foot high) .. with either five consequitive (annual) wins with the same "hack-horse" .. or wins in seven consequetive years with different hack-horses.. NONE of which can be raced for money at any other event in the intervening months..?

Can anyone verify this..?

As it's a well known (horse racing) GALLOPS "memorial" GOLD CUP

Held annually at Omakau Racecourse, NZ

It's location is easily verified via maps.google.co.nz as being located "on racecourse road".. Just about 2Km north of the Central Otago Railtrail Township, of Omakau, in Central Otago .. New Zealand.

Any info would be greatly appreciated by the racing fraternity (here in NZ) Cheers. 125.237.27.100 (talk) 07:50, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

reference photos can be found.. http://static.stuff.co.nz/1294081288/770/4510770.jpg

And.. there is a fairly good article about it there also .. Of when it was handed over to the local "Alexandra" Central Stories Museum (for safe keeping & public deispaly thereof) re:

However.. if you wish .. (being as I am the great grandson of John Clare).. would you LIKE me to take some photos & maybe a video of it.. the next time i am in Alexandra.. ? ... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.237.27.100 (talk) 08:37, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
