Reassessment[edit]

I have reverted this article's assessment as B. It fails B2 by not providing sections for Titanic and Britannic like has been done for Olympic. This is a glaring hole in the article and the article will not be B until that is done. -MBK004 00:28, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Largest shipwreck in the world?[edit]

The wreck of Britannic is described as the largest shipwreck in the world. Any source or clarification for this? Is it the largest passenger ship wreck? Bigger cargo ships, such as MV Kowloon Bridge and MT Haven, have been lost over the years. Tupsumato (talk) 10:11, 6 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While your edit is I believe technically accurate, we do need to do a little research to qualify what measure is being used for "largest". The two examples you mentioned had larger displacement, and their tonnage is listed in deadweight, not gross tonnage (which is a measure of enclosed space, not weight). A quick look at the dimensions of the two ships you mentioned would indicate that they are likely of a much smaller gross tonnage than Britannic. I would hypothesize, without having done any hard research, that the "largest" claim refers to gross tonnage. But we'll have to see, I suppose. SchuminWeb (Talk) 15:17, 6 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Both MV Kowloon Bridge and MT Haven were very large ships and while I couldn't find their gross tonnages with a quick search, even smaller ships of the same type have greater gross tonnage than HMHS Britannic. One such example is MT Tempera which has a gross tonnage of 64,259 GT, more than that of the old liner. Therefore I would assume that both of the ships I mentioned have a greater gross tonnage than the Britannic, meaning that it's at most the biggest passenger ship wreck in the world. If you want to include the size to the deck description, I would suggest "one of the largest wrecks in the world" or "one of the largest passenger ship wrecks in the world" until someone verifies that no bigger passenger ships have sunk since Britannic (which I believe is the case after a quick lookup). There were larger liner wrecks than Britannic, e.g. SS Rex, SS Normandie, and RMS Queen Elizabeth. But these liners did not really sink and were scrapped later on, although of the Rex some remaining parts are left. So Britannic seems to be the largest passenger ship wreck. Unfortunately I've actually no source at hand, but I'm sure that I've read this several times.--DFoerster (talk) 17:48, 6 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

4 Planned Olympic Liners?[edit]

On TGOL's website there was a mentioning of 4 Olympic Class Oceanic Liners with the 4th one to be called Homeric. Planning of the ship however stopped after the outbreak of WWI. Should it be mentioned in this article somewhere? However I will change the numbers of planned Olympic Liners to 4 since there is evidence to warrant it.--Trulystand700 (talk) 02:52, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
