Observation...[edit]

Why in one episode, is listed that both win (except Oggy and Jack) and in other episode, is listed that the Cockroaches win (including Joey)?

Because both include Oggy and the three Cockroaches and the Cockroaches include Joey...

Then, don't have sense in this! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.79.254.111 (talk) 15:07, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 9 February 2013[edit]

Buddy Parrot Oggy saw a parrot on a tree which repeats what he says and anything it says, so he gives him some munchy crackers to bring it to him. Cockroach Dee Dee likes those too, so he tries to get those munchy crackers by stealing some feathers to disguise as a parrot. But every time he tries to get a feather, the parrot attacks him but Dee Dee managed to get a feather. All goes well, until the parrot is giving Oggy a headache because it also follows other things like snoring, toilet flushing, and horn honking this makes Oggy frustrated because Olivia became upset with the parrot he got. So he managed to return the parrot to the vet when he saw the missing poster of a parrot. Later, while he was heating the munchy crackers, he gives them to Cockroach Dee Dee disguised as a parrot while Joey and Marky wants those too. Happy Ending: Both(mainly Dee Dee)

The Magic Pen The witch is driving around the world until she reaches a bumpy storm which cause her magic pen to fall out of her purse. Cockroach Dee Dee draws something with the pen until the drawing became real until the other cockroaches tries to get their hands on it. While Oggy is looking at the picture frame, Joey draws a stick soldier with a gun to scare off Oggy. Soon, it turns into a war zone when the pen broke into 2 halves so they draw a line as their battlefield. The battle goes on between Oggy's team against the cockroaches's team until the witch came in and stops their battling. She ties the cockroaches in a rope using the pen and Oggy shakes hands with the witch and she disappeared. The cockroaches will be cleaning the scribbles while Oggy is watching TV and holds a flyswatter if the cockroaches stop working. Happy Ending: Oggy

The Cube Oggy saw a cube outside his house, so he brings it to his living room. The cockroaches are curious to know what the cube does, it makes a loud screechy sound which strips then out of their skin and out of their brains. Oggy keeps on staring at it so he takes it for a walk. Oggy didn't realize that the cube grows bigger until he became hypnotized by looking at it. Olivia goes into Oggy's house but realized that Oggy is going crazy because of that cube, so she calls Jack for help. Olivia lured Oggy far away from the cube using the chocolate bars while Jack crushed the cube into a small cube which he used as a key chain. Oggy managed to became normal after Olivia kissed him until he notices a sphere with the same color and texture, so he brings it to his house. Happy Ending: Oggy

A Charming Guy Oggy was nervous trying to show his feelings with Olivia, so he tries giving her flowers but Cockroach Joey kissed her which makes Oggy jealous. So he stomped Joey except it makes Olivia cry so he tries to confront Joey but she's in her house. He tries other charming things on the book except it didn't go too well. He calls Jack for help because he wants to learn how to become a charming guy. Jack gave Oggy a earphone with a microphone so that he can do what Jack tells him to do. Olivia arrives but the cockroaches made Oggy do crazy things when they knocked out Jack, Olivia and Oggy watch a pottery show until the cockroaches shows them a video of Oggy and Jack kissing which makes Oggy embarrassed but Oggy was back up when Olivia kissed him. Olivia cries again when Jack stomped the cockroaches while tied up so they confront the cockroaches which makes her happy. Oggy and Jack plays some music which makes Olivia happy but unnoticed that Oggy stomped the cockroaches during the music. Happy Ending: Oggy and Jack Pokemondap (talk) 03:27, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Country Origin[edit]

Cartoon Network[edit]

Someone keeps adding the Cartoon Network category onto the article. The article doesn't say anything about Cartoon Network airing the show in the US. - FilmandTVFan28 (talk) 17:57, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That would be me. So? Cartoon Network airs all over the world and Wikipedia has articles on the entire planet. Why should only the American Cartoon Network be acknowledged? N. Harmonik (talk) 20:56, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As an observer, the problem here seems two-fold, and I think I understand the disconnect between you and FilmandTVFan28. The Cartoon Network category text is ambiguous--it doesn't say explicitly that it means Cartoon Network USA. But if FilmandTVFan28 interpreted "This is for shows that have regularly aired their first-run episodes on the regular Cartoon Network schedule" to mean Cartoon Network USA, then you can understand where he is coming from. And if you interpreted it as ANY Cartoon Network channel, then we can see where you are coming from. Now the second issue, is that aside from the Foreign Broadcast section, which is unsourced, there is no prose or references to verify that the series aired on CN. WP:CAT says "Categorization of articles must be verifiable. It should be clear from verifiable information in the article why it was placed in each of its categories." I've left a note on the Category's talk page asking for clarification on the scope of the category. What would be ideal is that you introduce the missing information via prose, and with a reference prior to adding the category, and we will see how the category evolves. The Cartoon Network Asia source seems decent to establish that the show ran there. We can't use the YouTube source because we can't use sources with possible copyright violations. The other side of the issue is that there needs to be consensus in the category about what the intended scope is. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 23:59, 9 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sources?[edit]

Does anyone know where we can get more reliable sources? IMDB claims there are voice actors on this show... N. Harmonik (talk) 22:23, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The primary source (the cartoon) could be used for voice actors. I don't personally have access to the series, though. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 23:13, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's not just the (lack of) voice actors; we don't even know for certain what order the episodes are in. N. Harmonik (talk) 01:38, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I would propose that just about every piece of data we have on Oggy and the Cockroaches is suspect. The episode titles, the synopses, the airdates, the order... Is America the only nation that keeps track of what airs on television? And the "happy ending for" column at List of Oggy and the Cockroaches episodes--what purpose does that serve? I'd rather have a coherent synopsis that incorporates the ending, but I don't speak French, and data is apparently hard to come by. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 02:15, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Category: Shapeshifting in Fiction[edit]

An IPv6 user has added the category Category:Shapeshifting in fiction to the article three times. There is no clear indication from sourced prose in the article of why this show belongs in this category (User has tacked on an embedded comment "As shown in Metamorphosis, Back to the Past and For Real") The series, though, isn't about shapeshifting, and it would seem that every "squash and stretch" cartoon would qualify as Shapeshifting in fition. I propose the removal of this category. Any thoughts? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 13:54, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

IMDB?[edit]

Is it okay for a link to IMDB to be here? After all, it ridiculously states that there are voice actors. On that note, can somebody with Twitter or Facebook accounts please contact those supposed actors to ask them and settle this once and for all? N. Harmonik (talk) 19:47, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi N, an IMDb link won't do much for us since it's not considered a reliable source. Asking the actors directly would constitute original research, but more importantly, the onus is on the contributors to provide the reliable sources, not for us to go out of our way to disprove it. It is, after all, difficult to prove a negative. And my understanding too, based on seeing a few snippets of this series, is that they don't typically speak. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:57, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So the IMDB link should be removed then? N. Harmonik (talk) 20:25, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's okay to use IMDb as an external link for readers to investigate the show--that's why we have the various {{IMDb}} templates (Template:IMDb name, Template:IMDb title, Template:IMDb character, Template:IMDb episode, Template:IMDb company etc.) But we can't use IMDb as a reference, so no inline use, or arguments pointing to IMDb as "evidence". Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:46, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

IMDB should not be used in the Reception section either. Please note: WP:UGC and MOS:TVRECEPTION audience scores are not reliable and are not allowed. -- 109.79.78.194 (talk) 05:12, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Another source for his name?[edit]

According to http://www.franceinfo.fr/emission/cartoon-story/2014-ete/oggy-et-les-cafards-08-06-2014-09-55, Oggy also got his name from Ziggy Stardust. Is France Info considered a reliable source? N. Harmonik (talk) 17:48, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I don't oppose the inclusion of the info or the source, though I wish it was clearer how the names are related. I don't read French, but it seems somewhat vague--they basically just say that Oggy's name was inspired by the names Iggy Pop and Ziggy Stardust. I suppose if that's all we have, it's fine. http://oggyandthecockroaches.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:7954 I don't suppose this would pass muster. N. Harmonik (talk) 02:56, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Good instincts, N. Harmonik. No, this would constitute original research. We are not reporters and it is not our job to chase down scoops or to float questions to primary sources. Also, I'm pretty sure bots remove any references that originate at Wikia. There is no deadline. Let's wait until an official statement arrives. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:06, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay but I don't know where an official statement would originate. N. Harmonik (talk) 03:11, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
For uncontroversial statements, we could use a primary source (the production company's blog/website/press release). We could also use the official statements of the network that produced the series. etc. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:30, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jack's relation to Oggy[edit]

We need to talk about it. Recently there has been some sort of edit disparagements (I don't know a better word for it, the dispute doesn't seem to be this case) about whether Jack is Oggy's cousin or not. In Oggy's official website, Xilam clearly states that Jack is Oggy's cousin (see in this link: https://oggy.com/characters/?lang=en). Apparently, someone disagreed on the grounds that it was never stated because it is a silent series. What do you think? We need to solve this right now, as soon as possible. --Roif456 (talk) 09:24, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Characters section (for the moment)[edit]

So, uh, I believe Monica is supposed to be Oggy's twin sister, and the Indian dub localized it so that she'd be unrelated and it'd be less... icky for her to date Jack. But yeah, it's canon, so I'd rather not change that in favor of "childhood friend". Still bad and weird though for the show to have that, not gonna lie! WannurSyafiqah74 (talk) 15:32, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Typo (Monica paragraph)[edit]

In the characters section, the paragraph about Monica, there is a typo: "...latter of whom she has a child within "Oggy the..." . It should be "with in". Crowbait2012 (talk) 22:13, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Any inspiration from the 1916 Archy and Mehitabel?[edit]

Reading this article, I couldn't help but be reminded of a book of short stories I read decades ago, about a cat and a cockroach.

I finally remembered the title: Archy and Mehitabel, from 1916, by Don Marquis.

The coincidence of the premise in both stories, involving a cat and a cockroach (or multiple cockroaches) seems too close to be an accident. One would think that the creators of Oggy and the Cockroaches must have known about Archy and Mehitabel. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any source that established a link between the two works. ~Anachronist (talk) 06:35, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Main Characters[edit]

According to the intro, the series has 5 main characters, Oggy, Dee Dee, Marky, Joey and Jack. Oggy, Dee Dee, Marky and Joey may be the titular characters, but there are episodes where Jack takes over Oggy's role as the main focus. These episodes include "It's All Under Control", "The Patient", "The Rise and the Fall", "Happy Birthday", "Metamorphosis", "Oggy and the Babies", "Love & Kisses", "Ski Bugs", "Perpetual Motion", "Go For It, Jack!", "The Pumpkin that Pretended to be a Ferrari", "Sea Risks..." and many more. PickleAndPeanutFan (talk) 10:42, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@PickleAndPeanutFan The intro doesn't label Jack as a main character, Bob and Olivia has also appeared in alot of episodes why didn't you move them in main characters section? @Escape Orbit You don't understand, Someonewhoisusinginternet started the edit warring! Jack is a main character! It is shown everywhere! PickleAndPeanutFan (talk) 03:08, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You started edit warring with this edit here. You changed the article to say Jack was a main character. That's fine. You were being bold and Wikipedia encourages that. Someonewhoisusinginternet disagreed and restored the article to what it said before. That's also fine and following the Bold, Revert, Discuss process. But you then restored what you already done without any attempt at discussing it here, on the talk page, and continued to restored it while the discussion was still happening and before any agreement had been reached. That is edit warring, which is disruptive, unproductive and not allowed. It's up to you, as the one who wants the change, to convince other editors it is the correct thing to do. Please continue to try to reach a consensus on this before editing the article again. Thanks. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 11:55, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Evidence that Jack is a main character.[edit]

I have real evidence this time! You see this is the official Oggy and the Cockroaches defunct website.

http://web.archive.org/web/20121019233148/http://www.xilam.com/xilam/ev/anims/a_oggy.html

If you click on the files, It will introduce you to the main characters. Even if it doesn't have the words "main characters" on it. The file shows the five characters on the page. Oggy, Joey, Marky, Dee Dee and last but not least Jack. Bob and Olivia are the only characters who is not on this file. It may not say "main characters" but this came from the Xilam website, meaning Jack really is a main character. So it is unnecessary to remove him from the Main characters and show that not all main characters have to appear in all of the episodes of the show. @Sopresa: Until you have gained more editing experience over the next few days, for now you should make edit requests on this talk page instead. Make your request in the form "change X to Y", explain your reasoning, and include citations to reliable sources if you are introducing new content. ~Anachronist (talk) 20:56, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
