Current event?[edit]

If this storm is still actve, and is moving into Canada, why not include a current storm info section? What are its effects to Canada? AstroHurricane001 19:38, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It brushed by Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, but did bring them some rain and likely some wind. I'll check with someone I know at Environment Canada to see if there is any other information, because an initial search online has turned up nothing from the St. Johns and Halifax newspapers. Thanks, and I'm guessing that the effects on Canada weren't as severe as what happened in the US, because of what the article says. Despite the deepening pressure, I guess it wasn't major enough to be mentioned in a major newspaper. Maybe there's some info on Wikinews. 944mb low?[edit]

What is the source for the 944 mbar figure? That is far deeper than even the 1993 North American Storm Complex, and more intense than any Atlantic hurricane this season, in line with a Category 4 hurricane! Well, you can expect to see more storms of the same type near that same area! A new storm is expected to bring stormy conditions from the Gulf of Mexico to Atlantic Canada. This could bring record breaking high tempertures to parts of eastern US and Canada, and snow to parts of Ohio, Pensylvania, Michigan, etc and parts of Ontario and Quebec. It already has brought thunderstorms to Parts of Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, etc, and snow/ice/freezing rain/blizzard/extreme weather to parts of Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, and parts of Northern US! The OPC surface analysis from that time...their analyses are online for a week through www.opc.ncep.noaa.gov if you'd like to view them. The system was well out to sea at the time, but the North Atlantic and North Pacific manage a few storms of of 950 hPa or below each winter. Keep in mind extratropical cyclones have broader wind fields. Quikscat gave the system uncontaminated 80 kt wind vectors, for reference. Thegreatdr 14:27, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Name of the article[edit]

I know this article was moved, because of "Thanksgiving takes please at another time outside the US".

Google finds for "Late November 2006 Nor'easter" outside Wikipedia: zero. sic!!!

I agree with Chacor. We're avoiding POV by not using the name of a US holiday. The reason there may be all of these internet hits on Thanksgiving Nor'easter may be the original naming of this page (so there may be some circular logic at play). Not only is it systematic bias, it is untrue. If you had said "2006 Thanksgiving Nor'easter", it would effectively mean the storm lasted and affected land only for one day. It lasted a lot longer than that. AstroHurricane001 18:24, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This system's "name", from HPC, was SOUTHEASTERN COASTAL STORM. The NWS does not name extratropical cyclones. This description was chosen for our own archive, to differentiate different storms, and for potential users, so they know they are looking at information for the right system. Historically, if a name has been imposed on an extratropical cyclone in the United States, it has been by the media. Thegreatdr 18:55, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do we really need a name that long? It will be obvious to anyone hitting the article where this storm occurred. Besides, it reached peak intensity in the northeast Atlantic. Thegreatdr 17:23, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
